"The American" by Henry James examines the clash between Americans and Europeans in the 19th century. It centers around Christopher Newman, an American who comes to Paris to broaden his horizons. He falls in love with Claire and tries to court her but her family does not approve.

I am posting one book a day from my extensive to be read collection. No description and no reason why I got these books. Some are really old and some are new; there are quite a few. Join the fun!

This is day 16

Have been off Litsy last couple of weeks while on the big Australian vacation and I will be sharing a few bookish Aussie posts soon, but something else pretty noteworthy happened today. Mr. KVR and I became American citizens. I was impressed that the speakers encouraged us to honor our heritage and think about what we bring to our new country: not surprisingly importance of books and reading to further understanding is high on my list. ❤️📚🇺🇸

Susannah In spite of recent political events, I'm glad your faith in the US is strong enough to officially become a citizen. Now you can vote (and complain as loudly as the rest of us 😂)! I've heard a lot of wonderful things about American citizenship ceremonies. I'm glad yours was so positive. (edited) 7y
KVanRead @Susannah Thank you so much. Yes the ceremony was quite moving- almost 1200 people from 90 different countries, so I would say faith in America is quite strong. And yes I look forward to voting and complaining more loudly and with less reservations too.😂 7y
Ericmanciniwriter I just saw this - congratulations!! 7y
