The Best Horror of the Year, Volume 8
The Best Horror of the Year, Volume 8 | ed. Ellen Datlow
4 posts | 4 read | 1 reading | 6 to read
A town is held hostage by an unholy bargain made by some of the inhabitants; a party game on Halloween brings back memories better left forgotten; one misstep changes the balance of survival during the apocalypse; a group of seemingly typical travelers are stranded in an airport; a widowers holiday in a seaside town becomes a nightmare . . .
The Best Horror of the Year showcases the previous years best offerings in short fiction horror. This edition includes award-winning and critically acclaimed authors Neil Gaiman, Kelley Armstrong, Stephen Graham Jones, Carmen Maria Machado, and more.
For more than three decades, award-winning editor and anthologist Ellen Datlow has had her finger on the pulse of the latest and most terrifying in horror writing. Night Shade Books is proud to present the eighth volume in this annual series, a new collection of stories to keep you up at night.

Just found out I get to go to StokerCon for work since it's being hosted in my city!!! It's a big nerdy horror convention and now I'm dedicating the month and a half til the con to reading the Stoker Awards nominees. ☠😱☠😱

Having an early Sunday morning with a book, and a recording of Chopin playing in the background. I tend to forget the pleasures of fun and light literature in my olden days. I tend to go for the serious, and somber these days. As a small kid I would constantly go to the school library and ask for scary stories. The librarian would find me something, I‘d read it, return the next day to say “that wasn‘t scary. I want a really scary story.”

The front matter alone will kill your tbr list --soooo many recommendations. I'm about a third through, it's pretty good. I haven't loved every single story so far but definitely liked them all. Glad I checked this out on a whim.
