I'm SO CLOSE to finishing my audiobook then my kid loses my headphones 😭.
WESTERN HORROR BY VICTOR LAVALLE!? Of course it was fantastic!
Human, stop leaving your things where I nap
Finished! Loved it! This is definitely a series that will benefit from a reread -- I look forward to doing that in the run-up to Alecto
SO GOOD! Generational trauma through the lens of a La Llorona haunting over the span of 400 years
August.
Faves:
* I'm Glad My Mom Died
* The Queen of the Cicadas
* Harrow the Ninth
* The Book Eaters
* Stories from the Tenants Downstairs
* Clown in a Cornfield 2
* When We Lost Our Heads
And yesterday I got this ARC from NetGalley! Starting spooky season early 👻
It started out promising and I enjoyed the climax but honestly a bit boring, both plot and character wise. I dunno, might be a me problem-- it *felt* generic even dressed up with unique elements. Really cool idea that I didn't love as much as I wanted. Still a decent and pretty fast read though!
I wasn't impressed by Night Swim but this was wayyyy better
Starting this highly anticipated sequel tonight! Loved the first one but a bit fuzzy on the characters and details now-- still drawn in pretty quickly here
Currently reading and up next. Finally getting to my last prompt for the Around the Year Challenge on Goodreads (Female PI or police officer.)
Oops never posted my July Reads. Better 3 weeks late than never?
Screenshot of my GR review, I was way over the Litsy character limit 😅. Love love LOVED
100% picked up because Christopher Eccleston narrates the audiobook. Halfway through, enjoying the slow burn so far
Deep dive into long term and often messy grief. 4/5 stars, recommended for your Fall reading list
Reread! I loved this last summer and wanted a refresher before diving into The Ice Ghost
Continuing my indulgence rereads. I read this book EVERY YEAR. Easily my favorite magic system and I know the beats of this book forward and backwards. Still not tired of it. Reading this book is akin to a long, hot bath and slipping on a well worn tee after. Relaxing and comfortable
Look. These aren't great. The love triangle is AWFUL. But if you've ever read a petty drama Facebook post and all 300 comments for the juice without ever getting involved-- that's this in a book. At an intellectual level, these are meh. The speed I read them at... well. I NEED the juice. I'll likely get the third immediately just to answer questions and be thoroughly annoyed at the romance triangle end.
I like to indulge in some bookish nostalgia around my birthday. One of those books I borrowed over and over as a kid and it's still fun to read at nearly 36 😁
1. Nope. It looks like YA Fantasy.
2. No, I'm not a fan of this style. Bit overused the last few years.
Honestly this was kinda trash but I devoured it so middle ground 😂. The triangle between the MC and two indistinguishable brothers was terrrrrible but the general drama and mystery aspect was fun. Read this when you need the book equivalent of a fast food lunch
Really interesting, nearly read in one sitting! I had a couple nitpicks but overall a really great read
I've been in a rut, it's Christmas, and I've been rewatching Doctor Who since July (starting with An Unearthly Child.) I've read a couple of these new Who Target novelizations and they're usually fun with just enough extra detail to make it worth itvwhqh you've seen the episode a few times. Hopefully this is no exception
Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I‘d strike the sun if it insulted me.
July reads. Always my best month of reading every year ❤. Everything was good this month too! I literally rated every single one 4 or 5 stars on Goodreads and only a couple were 3.5 rounded up.
Whoo, August Book of the Month selections are up! I got two for once
Just started! Pretty much caught my attention right away. Mary Anning, fossils, 1800s England-- yes please.
I am a huge Stephen Graham Jones fan! Desperately trying to read the last third today but keep getting interrupted 😭
