4 posts | 4 read | 8 to read
For over three decades, Ellen Datlow has been at the center of horror. Bringing you the most frightening and terrifying stories, Datlow always has her finger on the pulse of what horror readers crave. Now, with the seventh volume of this series, Datlow is back again to bring you the stories that will keep you up at night. Encompassed in the pages of The Best Horror of the Year have been such illustrious writers as: Neil Gaiman Kim Robinson Stephen King Linda Nagata Laird Barron Margo Lanagan And many others With each passing year, science, technology, and the march of time shine light into the craggy corners of the universe, making the fears of an earlier generation seem quaint. But this “light” creates its own shadows. The Best Horror of the Year chronicles these shifting shadows. It is a catalog of terror, fear, and unpleasantness, as articulated by today’s most challenging and exciting writers.

AmyG Beloved? 6y
BeansPage @AmyG I don't understand what you're asking 🤔 6y
AmyG I never saw that as a horror book. 6y

vivastory I've read 35 of these. Not too bad! 6y
BeansPage @AmyG I've never read it before. What would you consider it to be? 6y
BeansPage @vivastory that's awesome out of 100! 6y
AmyG I thought of it more as just fiction...with ghosts. But not horror. It‘s an excellent book. 6y
BeansPage @AmyG I will have to check it out. Thank you for commenting 😘 6y
MaleficentBookDragon Only 19. I own quite a few of them, but just haven't gotten to them yet. I'd better get reading. 6y
MaleficentBookDragon @AmyG there were a few others I didn't think we're "horror" either. 6y
MaleficentBookDragon Two of my favorites are on there. Rosemary's Baby and 6y
Geeklet I‘ve read 10 and I‘m about halfway done with Feed. I have another one on my Spookathon tbr. This is a weird list though. I‘m not sure if The Road is horror. But if it is, it deserves to be higher up on the list. 6y
Readingismyescape Thanks for sharing. I found quite a few to add to my tbr, in addition to the several already on there. And I read maybe 15. Including 6y
BeansPage @Readingismyescape you are most welcome 🤗 6y
Lel2403 20. Great list and a few more on my TBR list 6y

Picked my next print read, and finished the first story in the anthology, We Are All Monsters Here by Kelly Armstrong. Off to a good start.

hollytucker Wow. That's a very powerful set of sentences. 7y

This is actually from volume 8, but I can't seem to search that one up to link. This character description, though, it's as good as it gets. By Ray Garton. Here's hoping this audible-clip trick works: http://a.co/9pIOW6u

MrBook I know Ellen! She is an absolutely wonderful woman. Very helpful and generous with her time. 8y
Dogearedcopy @SGJ is in the house! Must read! 8y

Spending my morning reading The Best Horror of the Year, Volume 8. Ellen Datlow is the queen of editing horror anthologies! I'm already a few stories in and I'm really loving this newest collection. Amazing authors, as always. Also, some really great recommendations in the beginning of the book.

BookishFeminist I have that mug too! 💀 8y
BekahB @BookishFeminist I love bookish mugs, but I'm quickly running out of cupboard space for them! I'm going to have to get creative with storage because not buying them anymore isn't an option. 8y
BookishFeminist @BekahB I hear you. I have tons of bookish & sassy mugs- it's compounded by one of my friends who, for every birthday & Christmas, gets me what he likes to call "expressive drinkware." Code for "mugs w/sass and/or cursing." I have totally run out of cupboard space! 8y
BookishFeminist Side note, can't wait to see what you think of this! I love Ellen Datlow's anthologies. Is Vol. 8 out yet, or is this an ARC? 8y
BekahB It's out! I bought mine on my kindle because my local bookstore didn't have it in and I was impatient. 8y
