I love listening to Shea Serrano talk about movies. I‘m hoping he‘ll have a season 2 of his Villains podcast.

I just got this book in the mail today. I‘m really excited to dig into it and start a ‘movies to watch‘ list! I‘m also loving the illustrations. 😍

This might be the go-to present for my movie-loving friends and family members.

Aright, coffee is brewed and I‘m ready to start the day with a book. I read part of Wilder Girls last night, but it‘s a little heavier than I‘m in the mood for right now. I love the writing and I plan to pick it back up later this weekend.

I‘m going to test drive a couple books, but I‘m leaning towards The Toll. When I bought this book, I realized I‘ve never read something by Cherie Priest, which surprises me. Looking forward to trying this one!

NikkiRobson73 I just read the synopsis and saw it was set in the okeefeenokee swamp which I live right by so I definitely want to see how this plays out 3mo

Organizing my bookshelves took a little longer than I planned. I ended up ordering a fourth bookcase because I liked them so much and I wanted to make sure I had plenty of room for future book purchases. 😆

I really love how they turned out! I‘m so happy that all four bookcases fit along one wall. I love seeing them all lined up! Now I‘m going to spend the next few minutes at my desk to stare at them. 📚📚

I loved this audiobook so much! I loved the conversational back and forth style. I liked that they mixed in live readings for portions of the book. It was so well done. This book had me laughing out loud and at times bracing myself while they dug deep and told personal stories from their lives.

I can see myself listening to this again in the future. My B&N copy comes in on Friday so I can see the amazing artwork by some #murderinos!

I‘ve been pretty absent from Litsy lately. Several weeks ago I found out the owner of the condo I rent wanted to sell it, so I was looking for a new place. I actually ended up finding a condo to buy! It‘s closer to where I should be closing sometime next week.

Book 4 of #24in48

I love Gaby Dunn‘s podcast, Bad with Money. This book regurgitates most of the podcast‘s topics, but she goes deeper into her personal issues with money. Instead of an instructional guide, this is closer to a financial memoir with lessons learned in each chapter.

This would have been an awesome read in my late teens/early 20s - especially now that I‘m in my 30s and working to undo some of the exact mistakes Dunn discusses.

Since the last Buffy book didn‘t get tons of love from me, I wanted to talk about one that did. This is the 1st in a series about a Potential Slayer and what happened after season 7.

To keep it short - this was written by a fan. So many fun references from the original movie, TV series, and comics. You don‘t have to be a fan of the show to enjoy it, but it‘s incredibly fun for those who are. I‘m looking forward to the next one!

Book 1 for #24in48 is done!

This was cute, but not anything spectacular. I know this is geared toward middle grade readers, but I‘ve read a lot of MG that‘s much better than this. And being that it‘s BTVS, I expected even more from it.

There are some fun references to the TV series that I enjoyed and an interesting change to what happens to vampires when they‘re staked. I‘ll still pick up the next one in the series because I love the BTVS world.

These are some of my favorite books I read in 2018! I was able to get through 108 books, which is the most I‘ve ever read in a year.

I‘m setting my 2019 goal at 60 so I can try to knock out some of my chunky books (500+ pages).

I also want to reduce my physical TBR. I have 3 tall bookcases full of unread books and I‘d like to clear off at least 1. I‘m planning to buy less and DNF more freely this year. Happy New Year everyone! 🎉🎉

I FINALLY got around to reading NOS4A2! For the past 3 years I‘ve been determined to read this around Christmas, but every December my reading mojo goes into hibernation and I never finish it.

BekahB @JoScho I struggle to read/finish books in December, but I was tired of seeing this in my TBR. Switching between the audiobook and ebook really helped me. It‘s definitely a chunkster. One of my goals in 2019 is to get through some of my 600+ page books. 11mo

I‘m really enjoying this book! I didn‘t expect the humor and I love the main character. I picked this simply because it was the first selection when #BOTM started in 1926, but I‘m definitely going to read more by this author.

This is the last BOTM book I‘ll get to this month. I‘ll have finished 4 after this (I enjoyed them all). I started and DNF‘d 8, which brings me down to 22 unread BOTMs. Not too bad - cleared some space on that shelf. 😸

This arrived yesterday and I‘m so happy to have it in my hands! I read The Traitor Baru Cormorant in May and it‘s easily one of my favorite reads this year. This isn‘t my typical go-to genre (geopolitical fantasy) but this book may have changed my mind! I had to push through the first 50-ish pages, but then I was all in.

Another fantastic audiobook by Valancourt Books! This is my favorite kind of horror - one where the tension slowly builds until you‘re caught up in the middle of it. I love that online descriptions of King‘s books are identifying stories set in Castle Rock - I‘m sure due to Hulu‘s Castle Rock series coming out in July.

I‘ve been a horror fan since I was a kid, but I didn‘t start getting into King‘s novels until late last year. Not sure if I was intimidate by the size of his books or just how many he‘s written. Since reading IT last year, I‘ve been picking up 1 or 2 a month (mostly audio) and loving them!

Anton Cujo is one of my favourite Stephen King books! 1y

Some of these have been on past readathon TBRs, but I never made my way through them. I‘m hoping to add a few more books to my total-books-read tally for the month. 📚

C.Perone Happy #readathon I‘ll be right there with you, though not as well fed 😁 2y
tammysue You‘re all set - It looks great!😁 2y
BekahB @C.Perone and @whatshesreadingnow I definitely use readathons as an excuse to indulge. 😂 2y

Well, the #Audible sale got me. Everything is 30% off for members and I couldn‘t resist. I ended up buying 4 books (all under $9) and threw in West Cork for free. I also ended up buying the ebook for Kill Creek since it‘s only $5 right now and added the audiobook for another $7.50 (cheaper than buying it through the Audible sale). I‘ve really been enjoying horror audiobooks lately, and I‘m excited to get to one of these after Pet Sematary!

Off Season | Jack Ketchum

I love the horror genre, but I‘ve always been nervous to read Ketchum. I have a pretty high threshold for “gross stuff”, but his books have always been on my “nope” list.

With his recent passing, I decided I want to try at least 1 book before I nix him from my TBR. The Girl Next Door will always be a nope. I know the true crime it‘s based on and I can‘t do it. But I‘ll give a family of cannibals a try. 🍴

Ok...deep breath...let‘s get started. 😬

Burghbookaddict Gah! Let me know if its too much! Im scared to read him, too 2y
rohit-sawant I've yet to read his work, too. Hoping to start soon. 2y

Day 1: This is my #AprilTBR. I started The Perfect Nanny, Cold Moon Over Babylon, and The Merry Spinster in March. I‘m also listening to Pet Sematary, We Are Never Meeting in Real Life, and Mr. Splitfoot on audio. Mr. Splitfoot is going a little slow for me, so I might switch to the ebook.

There are also a few books coming out this month that I‘m really excited about, so those will be part of my TBR too!

Armored Saint, The | Myke Cole

I was able to read 15 books this month, which is pretty good for my reading pace. It‘s hard to pick a March favorite. I enjoyed most of what I read. The Elementals (audiobook), The Armored Saint, and Ghost Summer are probably my top 3 favorites for March. I‘m also loving this new manga series, The Promised Neverland, which is a dark fantasy that borders on horror. I‘m excited to grab volume 3 when it‘s released on Tuesday!

Andrew65 Well done! 🙌🙌 2y
brutalbookworm Omg Mister Tender‘s Girl was so amazing! I got that 2 months ago as an e-arc and flew through it 2y

Pet Sematary (Library) | Stephen King

I did some audiobaking this afternoon while listening to Pet Sematary, narrated by Michael C. Hall. I‘m not that far into it, but I‘m really enjoying it so far! Nothing creepy is happening yet, but I‘ve watched the movie so I know the scares are coming soon. 🙀

The cookies on the right are salted caramel toffee with white chocolate and the ones on the left have chocolate chunks and are stuffed with Nutella. 🍪

BekahB @Ingerella in the intro to this edition I‘m listening to, King wrote that most people tell him The Shining scared them most, but he thinks this is the scariest one he wrote. 😃 2y
Ingerella I agree with him! 2y

Here‘s my March #BookHaul! I allowed myself to exceed my monthly 12-book limit for my birthday. I told myself that I could buy as many as I wanted on my birthday and they wouldn‘t count towards the 12 for March. Apparently I decided to double down and I bought 12 in one day (right side stack), bringing my March total to 24 books. Oh well.

Fortunately, I‘ve read almost half of these this month so they didn‘t add too much to my ever-growing TBR. 😀

Blackwater | Michael McDowell
post image

When I was about halfway through The Elementals, I decided I wanted to read as much of McDowell‘s work that I can get my hands on. I have Cold Moon Over Babylon, but I‘m also interested in his Blackwater saga. It was originally published in 6 books, but Valancourt republished it in a single collection. It‘s almost 800 pages so it will take some time to get through. I‘m excited to dig into another Southern gothic horror from this amazing writer. 👻

Pickpick

I just finished this audiobook and WOW. The writing is amazing and creepy. I got chills throughout the book and I found myself saying “oh hell no” A LOT. 😂

Also, the narration was fantastic! I noticed that Valancourt has used R.C. Bray in other audiobooks, so I‘ll look for his name when picking future audiobooks.

This was my first McDowell and I‘m hooked. I have an unread copy of Cold Moon Over Babylon that‘s now moved to the top of my TBR.

Bookzombie I have listened to R.C Bray narrate a few and enjoyed them. I will have to see if the library has this one audio. 🙂 2y

I‘m supposed to be at the gym, but I‘m doing this instead. Sure I‘ll make it to the gym tomorrow. 😆 🏋️‍♀️

I‘m only about 100 pages into this book and I‘m already hooked. I‘m trying to keep up with 2018 horror releases so I‘ll be familiar with the next Bram Stoker award nominees. I wasn‘t familiar with most of the 2017 nominees.

readordierachel Hey, you gotta exercise your brain too 😉 2y
LauraJ The library waitlist for this book is over 6 months! 2y
BekahB @ReadOrDieRachel I agree! Plus I had to pick up the book and it‘s a hardcover, so I‘m pretty much lifting weights. 😂 2y
BekahB @LauraJ wow! I‘m surprised. I didn‘t know this book had that much buzz! 2y

This year I‘m only allowing myself to acquire 12 books a month with 2 exceptions - the Book Outlet Black Friday sale and my birthday. Well today is my birthday so I decided to take the day off from work and instead, see Black Panther followed by a shopping trip to Barnes & Noble. I bought more than I intended to - 7 books in the store and 5 more online - but I regret nothing! I had a great day and now I‘m going to spend some time reading. 😀

This was a difficult prompt! There are so many great horror novels. I love a creepy ghost story that slowly builds up dread and ends in absolute terror. I think that‘s why Michelle Paver‘s Dark Matter is my favorite #horror novel.

I read Thin Air last year. It wasn‘t as good as Dark Matter, but it was still pretty spooky. 👻

somebooksaround Thank you for sharing! I don‘t know many ghost stories, so I‘m super glad to add this to my tbr! Happy reading! 😃🙌📚 2y
