pickI enjoyed this but it was very much like the film adapation, which I saw first and I think I preferred. Momoko is devoted to all things Lolita fashion and rococo and has almost no interest in anything else. To get more money to buy clothes, she submits a newspaper ad for her gangster father's leftover counterfeits. Ichigo, a committed Yanki, a Lolita's polar opposite, responds, and despite Momoko's resistance they develop a friendship...
I feel like Momoko probably grew up to become Aggretsuko. She surely wouldn‘t work hard enough promoting her Lolita lifestyle to become an instagram influencer and would probably fall into some kind of basic work after school, when she finally ran out of knock-off luxury goods to sell on the underground market, earning just enough to support her luxury clothes habit, but also creating suppressed rage at her place in ‘the system‘ of work.
A dear friend is moving to Israel for a year and sent me a few of her books. She said it was special to her when she was 15/16 and began experimenting with Lolita fashion. I‘m only a few pages in but I‘ve already learned some interesting information about Rococo and Lolita.
Also, I finished Call Me By Your Name today. It was just so beautiful, and I want to read something else that will move me like it did.
This was the second book I chose for #theunreadshelfproject2018 - I love the film so when I saw this I grabbed it immediately. Again, I just haven't gotten around to it, even though every time I see it I long to give it a go! 😅
