4⭐️ The main character here is Pauline Quenu, the daughter of Lisa Macquart. She‘s quite impossible; too kind, too much self-sacrifice - that she irritates me from start to end. The other main character, her cousin, is another impossible creature. Lacking of courage and perseverance, this man is also so scared of death. Together, they made me roll my eyes, & write too many things on the margin with all the frustration!👇🏻

Reading the last 60 pages. Zola has tormented me with this one. He‘s really good in stirring all the emotions in me
