Lunar New Year Love Story, by Gene Luen Yang (illustrated byLeUyen Pham) (2024)

Premise: A Vietnamese-American teenager is pulled in many directions after she learns of a family curse that means they are all destined to fail at love.

Review: This was a bit of a mixed bag for me, largely because there were a few too many things stuffed in this particular bag for my liking. Cont.

Mattsbookaday For me the best parts were the specificity of the cultural representation — particularly in the similarities and differences among East Asian Lunar New Year celebrations and in the mixture of indigenous and Christian themes in Vietnamese communities — and the moral of the story, which was not what one might expect from this kind of novel. But it did feel a bit over-stuffed.

That persistent need in every person lately to skip half the vampire literature and go straight to Twilight is what we need to reduce. In my opinion, you should read the vampire books in order to better understand these creatures of the night. In Twilight, there are some things that aren't explained as much as in other vampire books. Recommended, yes, but after you've read Dracula, Nosferatu, or Leslat

This was a re-read for me, after recently watching the Netflix series. The series was remarkably faithful to the book, other than maybe the casting. Would recommend both book and series!

I finished the last book and the pollen onslaught drove me back inside so I‘m diving back into this one.

This Is a Love Story | Jessica Soffer

March 25, 2025 On Chapter 27!!! Very close to the end. I feel like the pace of the writing is picking up speed. It was slow in the beginning and middle and NOW it is getting faster. I read mostly about Jane and how she is feeling after giving birth to Max. She wasnt even sure whether she would have Max but she did and Abe is helping in any way he can. She appreciates it. He also is writing a book while she is making artwork. Abe loves her #love
