Gut punch doesn't begin to describe my reaction to the last 20 pages. Trigger warnings for everything - if you're sensitive to pretty much any subject, this book is a no-go!
At times I felt Barbara Gowdy is more skilled @ short stories than novels yet the end packed one hell of an emotional punch. I suspected it might end like this and it still robbed me of breath. I'm a sucker for books that wreck me, so I'm obviously going to read more of hers

Like everything I've ever read by Barbara Gowdy, this is both beautiful and completely heartbreaking. Ugh - my heart can barely take this but I can't stop reading.

Much needed day off. Just me and these two boys today - which means holding book in one hand so the other hand is free to throw the kong ball (for literally *hours*)
