Glass Key | Dashiell Hammett
5 posts | 17 read | 12 to read
This classic Hammet work of detective fiction combines an airtight plot, authentically venal characters, and writing of telegraphic crispness.

Mehso-so

144/150 Not one of my favorite Hammett novels. Ned Beaumont is a gambler and fixer for the mob. He's a cold, ruthless, brutal, sadistic man, who will do whatever is necessary, no matter who's life he destroys. It's impossible to root for him, so his final victory is bitter, knowing the trail of destruction he's left behind. 3 ⭐⭐⭐

#ArtfulAugust #Key Dashiell Hammett & Raymond Chandler are both from the Golden Age of Noir.I remember reading them years ago & feeling lucky to find nice paperbacks when my book budget was tiny.

Eggs Perfect 🤩 2y

vivastory I recently watched Kurosawa's adaptation. It's one of the best movies I've seen this year! 2y
vivastory I read it when it was first released but I've been meaning to revisit it. It is pretty mind-blowing that Hammett's work inspired both a groundbreaking spaghetti western and an influential samurai movie! 2y
Bookwomble @vivastory And a gangster movie: Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis in one of his better performances 🙂 2y
vivastory @Bookwomble Adding to my watch list. Thanks! 2y

Pickpick

While this wasn't as good as Raymond Chandler's gumshoe novels (to me), it was still a good read. I'll never pass up a good noir. It jumped around a lot and felt like there should be prior knowledge of characters, but it wasn't unpleasant. I want to watch the movie now, for sure. 109/1,001 #1001Books
