I will be the first to tell you I am not the target audience. I am what R. Pinchas calls an "assimilated Jew", which is a group R. Pincahs is very critical of. With that said, he gives a fantastic and in-perspective telling of the Chanukah story that also puts the miracle into its rightful historical perspective. I would recommend it for any Jew who wants to learn more about the Greek exile.

"'The sacred words which Israel handled like precious gems were twisted by the nations and debased.'" Sadly, no matter which religion you are, this is becoming all too common with sacred texts. #chanukahthoughs

Happy Hanukkah! The book I'm reading (Hidden Lights) is a historical analysis of the miracle of Hanukkah. Although I am a part of a group of what the author calls "Assimilated Jews", I always find the Orthodox perspective to be fascinating. As a person who strongly believes in the unification of Jews worldwide, we all must learn to live peacefully with opposing viewpoints.
