An Evil Cradling
An Evil Cradling | Brian Keenan
2 posts | 1 read | 8 to read
Brian Keenan went to Beirut in 1985 for a change of scene from his native Belfast. He became headline news when he was kidnapped by fundamentalist Shi'ite militiamen and held in the suburbs of Beirut for the next four and a half years. For much of that time he was shut off from all news and contact with anyone other than his jailers and, later, his fellow hostages, amongst them John McCarthy.

#TuneIntoNovember #Evilfriends @Cinfhen @Robothugs I read this book years ago. I remember being very moved , 👍. ( pic of My sons book shelf)

Robothugs I have not read this before! 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I have not heard of this 😅 6y
Cathythoughts @Robothugs @erzascarletbookgasm it‘s about Brian Keenan, a man from Northern Ireland who was kidnapped & held prisoner in Beirut & how he mentally & physically survived this experience. It‘s a long time sinse I read this true story. It‘s not a light read. It‘s excellent 6y
TrishB I‘ve read this, not my usual sort (non fiction!) but him and John McCarthy were so inspirational I read both their books. 6y
Cathythoughts @TrishB I‘m not into true stories, Biographies, . But at the time this was a very important book & I read it & it was , as you say , so inspirational 👍 (edited) 6y

Cinfhen Oh this sounds fascinating! Stacked 7y
DeborahSmall @Cinfhen Eoin McNamee is also amazing. He writes about true events that have happened throughout the troubles but in a great style. Fiction based on a true story more or less. He's great. 7y
Cinfhen Thanks for the suggestions😘my TBR is ridiculous 7y

andrew61 A great choice, i read it many years ago but it deserves a reread. 7y
DeborahSmall @andrew61 me too. Definitely due a reread. There's a good few newspaper articles on him online, The Guardian and Independent 👍 7y
andrew61 I'll have a Google, thanks 7y
Andrew65 This man was one of my early heroes in life along with John McCarthy and Terry Waite. What they went through as hostages for four and a half years in the Lebanon in the 1980s is quite phenomenal. Hats off!🙌 (edited) 7y
DeborahSmall @Andrew65 mine too, I read all I could about his awful ordeal, Terry Waite too. Unbelievable men 7y
Andrew65 @DeborahSmall Terry Waite's forgiveness afterwards was awe inspiring! 7y
Cathythoughts I read An Evil Cradling a long time ago. I still remember how deeply it affected me (edited) 7y
