This and book three truly are the best in this series.

Tris managed to save my opinion of him.

The human character, Jonmarc remains my favorite. Not the Necromancer, but the human. I'd say Jonmarc is towards the top of my favorite characters list, right after Batman and Zorro.

Yeah, I really need to find some magical men to add to that list.

Oh, an absolutely wonderful ending. So very stressful to reach the wonderful, yet grand nonetheless.

Kiara and Carroway fearing that they will have to prove their loyalty is driving me crazy, because Tris seems to be jumping right into believing it a possibility.

If Tris's reaction to the allegations had been:

“I don't believe it for one moment. I will investigate, for my own peace of mind, for our unborn child, and for my people as their king. But until it is proven, I don't believe it true.“

then it would have made sense to me.

While I continue to wish there were more scenes with Jonmarc, Carina, and the characters at Dark Haven, the story really does need all the characters to tell the story. Chapter 22 was excellent! Like a magical duet between Tris and Carina. Very well done. I still could do with less war scenes.

Clipping of the Winter Kingdoms map.

Tris just managed to annoy me. How could he believe, even for a second, that Kiara would betray him? The only thing that letter should have told him was that Kiara and Carroway were in danger.

Wish for more time spent in and around Dark Haven.

It does a good job of jumping between characters to advance the storyline. While interesting, I find myself rushing through them to return to Dark Haven ;-D.

The time came to finish this series. From a tropey fantasy shtick, it‘s grown into a decent and pretty dark epic.

Boy, is the first half depressing. Everything—everything!—goes wrong. Then there‘s fine bloody action, and it ends with a finale which is a tad watered down. I haven‘t had huge expectations for this, and it pleasantly surprised.

3.5/5

This was a great conclusion to this quartet of books. I really grew to care about all the characters which led to some emotional moments. These are such great fantasy books with the perfect blend of action, political intrigue, friendship, and romance. Plus I like necromancers so this was right in my wheelhouse.

D&D was cancelled so this is my new evening plan.

Aurys Looks like a good plan! If you don‘t mind, what‘s the first book in this series? :) 7y
