American Spring
American Spring: Lexington, Concord, and the Road to Revolution | Walter R. Borneman
2 posts | 1 reading | 2 to read
A vibrant new look at the American Revolution's first months, from the author of the bestseller The Admirals When we reflect on our nation's history, the American Revolution can feel almost like a foregone conclusion. In reality, the first weeks and months of 1775 were very tenuous, and a fractured and ragtag group of colonial militias had to coalesce rapidly to have even the slimmest chance of toppling the mighty British Army. AMERICAN SPRING follows a fledgling nation from Paul Revere's little-known ride of December 1774 and the first shots fired on Lexington Green through the catastrophic Battle of Bunker Hill, culminating with a Virginian named George Washington taking command of colonial forces on July 3, 1775. Focusing on the colorful heroes John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Mercy Otis Warren, Benjamin Franklin, and Patrick Henry, and the ordinary Americans caught up in the revolution, Walter R. Borneman uses newly available sources and research to tell the story of how a decade of discontent erupted into an armed rebellion that forged our nation.

This book explores the early days of the American Revolutionary War, a time when colonists were questioning how far they would go to seek independence from England. #BitinTheBullet #OctoberXFiles

How I am spending this #July4th. We haven't budged for about two hours and I've been sleeping too. #ALittleKnownFactAboutMe is that I'm a very happy member of #TodaysDAR. Genealogy is basically a crossword puzzle mixed with a mystery novel. I'm happy to share my POV on the society and its role in the modern day with anyone who is curious. I believe my ancestors dreamt a dream of America that has not yet come true.

ReadingEnvy I should be eligible by birth but can't file the paperwork because the courthouse holding my grandma's birth certificate burned down. But I think it's cool to connect back that far! 7y
mrsmarch @ReadingEnvy I don't have experience with burned courthouses, but did her marriage license name her parents? I'm registrar for my chapter. 7y

ReadingEnvy I'm not sure, I just know an aunt started the process and this is what stalled it. 7y
mrsmarch @ReadingEnvy If you're interested, I'd recommend contacting your state society thru the DAR.org website. We've got some real miracle workers when it comes to making all the connections. 7y
