SO GOOD! SO GOOD! It has been a while since I truly enjoyed short stories. I am so glad I read this. Cannot rave enough about the power in these short stories- each one created w/ equal intensity yet almost slightly connected to the other. Definitely one of my favorites this year!
"The hole she'd made was vague: that of a big sister who's always been closing her door."
"Desire bred desire, and if we kept chasing it, trying to hold what could not be held, we'd never be satisfied. We would build back up only to fail and fall again. We'd keep feeling alone."
Katie Chase's short story collection was an unexpected pleasure to read. The 8 stories are diverse, and explore sexuality and familial relationships in some surprising locales, including a refugee camp, a suburban backyard, a cabin in the woods, and a city on there verge of collapse, to name a few.
Love this debut collection, and not just because there's a story about Kyrgyzstan AND a story about Minnesota.
