Taken for a hitrecord project about books (https://hitrecord.org/records/4383609). One of my favorite novels & rabbit holes. Poe plays hide and seek throughout if the reader is willing to play It.

If you‘d like to listen to me read from it & talk about banned books, please listen to ep 23 of There Might Be Cupcakes Podcast: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/there-might-be-cupcakes-podcas-520320/episode...

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.

Mehso-so

I don‘t mind controversial subjects, I like when a book enraged me a little as this one did. Nabokov writes beautifully, the only thing is that the story as whole is a bit boring. Just a long journey with little action. I think I‘m just burnt out on books like this. I‘m ready for some action! 😂

LitLogophile Agreed 😂 6y

"The miracle I hankered for did happen after all."

Well, that's ridiculously fortuitous.

MrBook Mine's "His chariot." ??? 7y
kalinichta @MrBook WHAT DOES IT MEAN? (And not even an entire sentence.) 7y
MrBook It's from "American Gods". They were talking about what one of the characters was seen in. I don't know ??‍♂️?. My name is Jason, so maybe I'm supposed to be a hero in a chariot? ☺️ 7y

kalinichta @MrBook There you go. I like that interpretation. 7y
Seshat From "Abarat" by Clive Barker -

"The ditty was sung to the familiar tune of “O Christmas Tree,” but the words were unexpected."

kalinichta @Seshat Ooo, I like that. Though having your life dictated by Clive Barker could be fantastic or frightening (or both simultaneously). I keep meaning to re-read the first Abarat book so I can finally read the second book that a friend so kindly sent me. 7y
