Frankenstien | Mary Shelley
During the voyage, the crew spots a dog sled driven by a gigantic figure. A few hours later, the crew rescues a nearly frozen and emaciated man named Victor Frankenstein. Frankenstein has been a pursuit of the gigantic man observed by Walton's crew. Frankenstein starts to recover from his exertion; he sees in Walton the same obsession and has destroyed him. and recounts a story of his life's miseries to Walton as a waring. The recounted story serves as the frame for Frankenstein's narrative.

2/5 ⭐️s I probably would have given up on this book if it wasn't for my local book club. So many parts dragged on when it could have been so much shorter. Very different from the stories and movies you get about Frankenstein though.

cleoh Oh no! This is one of my favourite classics, so I‘m always so sad when others don‘t like it 😭 sorry you didn‘t enjoy it! 4d
Catsandbooks @cleoh Everyone has different tastes 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm glad I still read it. But wouldn't read it again. 4d

1- Mary Shelley and Patrick Ness.
2- is be too nervous to ask questions so I‘d just want to listen to them talk and be themselves. All casual and relax. While I imagine this we are having drinks in Al‘s Den in PDX. 😂
3- too many to count. 😝
4- anyone who hasn‘t done this already.

A very hard day ended with a bedtime read makes it much better 🥰🤓 am I the only one that gets major Hygge on nights like this?

Rachel.Rencher I need to learn more about this Hygge life because it sounds cozy. But yes, I take mental health time every night. If I didn't, I probably would've quit my job already. 😅 6d
Buechersuechtling Nope. I do, too – if my day wasn‘t so hard that I only want to sleep. — Nice bedsheet-pattern. 6d
Butterfinger Not alone. I love cuddling up in my blanket before going to sleep. 6d
Lauraandherbooks I had to google that word hygge! I learned something new! Thank you 😃 4d

I attended Alberta Ballet‘s thrilling adaptation of this tale last night. It was outstanding. They transposed the setting to North America and used Trump‘s home in Florida, Mar-a-Lago, as the place where Victor grew up. #modernrelevance

Lindy @batsy Yes! It was stylized and mesmerizing. The dancer embodying the creature had fabulous choreography. 1w

I‘m glad I finally got to read this wonderful story. I‘m shocked at how poorly it‘s been adapted in the movies. Frankenstein “monster” is a creature of depth and feelings wanting only to experience what so many take for granted. The connection of family and friends and the warmth that brings to humans lives. Victor had all those things and his neglect towards his creation lead to the destruction of his loved ones. #TeamSlaughter

I am using the tagged book for this prompt for my #52booksin52weeks challenge as even though I technically read 3 gothic books and I am trying to start a Halloween tradition to read/listen to this collection as I bought it last year and read/listen to them for the first time. This year it fits this prompt nicely.

@Schnoebs

Schnoebs 🙌🙌🙌 killing it. I just finished the second book in the Themis files which I think I‘m going to use for the military prompt. Reading another book now and hopefully can find a prompt for it as well 2w
Birdsong28 @Schnoebs Thanks so are you!! I'm going to be reading the tagged book for the western prompt and maybe got another couple lined up but I'm not sure if I will be finishing this challenge but I will give it my best shot!! 📚 📖 2w
Schnoebs Same here! I‘m almost at a 150 for the year. You‘d think I would be able to fill all these prompts but so far not yet 😂 2w

“As night approached I found myself at the entrance of the #cemetery... Everything was silent except the leaves of the trees, which were gently agitated by the wind; the night was nearly dark, and the scene would have been solemn and affecting even to an uninterested observer. The spirits of the departed seemed to flit around and to cast a shadow, which was felt but not seen, around the head of the mourner.” #QuotsyOct19

Reviewsbylola I have this edition too. I think it‘s time for a reread! I didn‘t enjoy it the first time I read it but it was assigned college reading so maybe I‘ll feel differently this time. 2w
ElizaMarie @Reviewsbylola : I feel like books that I was forced to read for school I HATED but then afterwards when I re-read them I actually really liked it. I think its the rebel in me that just didn't want to be told what to do? Anyway, I wasn't forced to read this one or anything but... I chose to read it this month and I really enjoyed it! So all in all what I am saying is... try a re-read! 2w

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ When I (finally) read Frankenstein last year, it swiftly earned a spot in my favorites. Young Shelley‘s gothic horror classic is bold and intricate, horrific and touching. It‘s evokes compassion in unexpected ways. A brilliant and scarily timeless work of art.

This rating is mostly based on the audiobook version. I‘ll have to give this a reread sometime on print. Is it bad that I felt sympathy for the monster and kind of hated Frankenstein?

I haven‘t read it since (it‘s been nearly 10 years 😱), but I remember this being a powerful story and enjoying it much more than I thought I would going into it.
