A wonderful collection of essays written in the interwar period in the UK. Orwell discusses class, sex, wealth and poverty, his 'Hop-Picking Diary' is a sad tale on the lives faced by itinerant workers and the homeless of London. By going undercover, Orwell hilariously attempts to get himself arrested as a drunk, so that he can report on the conditions of gaols in England.
The topics discussed are still as relevant now as they were 100 yrs ago
