4 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
In Diablo Lake, Tennessee, a town populated by werewolves, witches and more, magic woven deep into the earth protects the town's secrets from outsiders. Katie Grady left Diablo Lake to get over a humiliating breakup. But her family needs her help, so she's back, in a sublet right across the hall from the guy she's lusted after for years. Jace Dooley is hotter than ever, and their friendship picks up along with massive doses of grown-up chemistry. The very scent of Katie sharpens Jace's canines, makes the wolf within him stir. There's nothing more alluring to a Pack Alpha than a sexy female who is so very in charge. She won't be coddled, but if he plays his hand just right she might be convinced to become his. Katie presents a challenge to Jace's wolf nature, whose chief instinct is to protect. Especially now that she's coming into the magic that is her birthrightand suddenly Jace isn't the only one who's interested in Katie or the raw power she's just learning to use. OK start to this duo. I like that this relationship was a hea while the storyline is not all tied up. Not one of her better books though. #romance #romantsy

Is this half of a duology? Sure, the romance had a marriage climax, but none on the other plot threads resolved. I'm irked this wasn't marketed as such.

I'm irked about a bunch of stuff. This read like a shallow novella. The witchy heroine blurbed as just coming into her power? Yeah, the power's just there. Training was handwaved as happening, but between scenes. Author wrote funny bits, but frequent use of sentence fragments pinged my peeves.

esurient Bah. 6y
esurient Confirmation; this is a duology. I don't think I'll bother trying to track down the second half. 6y
Clare-Dragonfly Is the Litsy blurb different from the one you originally saw? It pretty explicitly says “this is a romance and the first half of a duology.” 6y

esurient @Clare-Dragonfly Yes. The library blurb was a sentence about werewolves, and the book's frontmatter made no mention. 6y
esurient @Clare-Dragonfly In hindsight, the title of 'Lake Diablo colon' had been a clue. 6y
Clare-Dragonfly I hate to say bad things about a library, but this one sounds more like a nuisance than anything! 6y
esurient @Clare-Dragonfly Ha, yup, probably not an experience I'll aim to repeat! 6y

And now the reading app does not seem to store and return you to the last page you were on.

Clare-Dragonfly That‘s annoying. 6y

Dang has it been hard to find a legal library copy of this book. Thanks, mom!

esurient Ugggh, I stand corrected. This tiny local library with its web-only reading app, none of that fancy 'download the book to a dedicated ereader,' holds the reading app open for 30 min. Then logs you out. 6y
esurient With my process of: get coffee, tend laundry, accept delivery, be sat on by a cat... I had only gotten to page two. This is going to be such a long process. 6y
Clare-Dragonfly That‘s a lot of effort! 😰 6y
esurient @Clare-Dragonfly It would be much easier just to buy the dang thing, but this author is a new one to me snd I'm waffling on her writing style. 6y
