panConsidering this is a children's / middle grade novel, adult scenes in this really turned my stomach. The brutal slaughter of the half human merlee was bad enough, but one scene with the half human quetzel, where one man turns to another and says 'if you look her you can see where she lays her eggs' had me reeling. Don't buy it.
