Sondok: Princess of the Moon and Stars | 
pickIt's been years since I've read any of Scholastic's diary books! They were among my favorite series in elementary school. I hadn't read Sondok before. I really enjoyed learning about this chapter in Korean history. When Korea was split among three kingdoms, Sondok is the heir to the throne of Silla. An avid astronomer, she hopes to one day build an observatory. However, her future is threatened when a visitor tries to turn the king against her.

Chelsibno My only real complaint about this entry in the Royal Diaries series is the way in which Sondok addresses her diary. She writes her diary as if she is addressing her deceased grandmother. While doing this, she explains in great detail several customs & stories, which her grandmother would have been familiar with & wouldn't need explained to her. While it didn't take away from the story, it just didn't make much sense from a narrative standpoint. 7y
Chelsibno @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Scholastic came out with several diary series in the late 1990s and 2000s. These consisted of Dear America, which focused on fictional girls at various points in American history; My Name Is America, which focused on fictional boys throughout American history; My America, which was aimed at slightly younger readers; & Royal Diaries, which focused on fictionalized diaries of real queens from around the world. 7y
