Storm and Grace
Storm and Grace | Kathryn Heyman
1 post | 2 read | 1 to read
... she is screaming, the way he wanted, the way he promised she would ... World-famous freediver Storm Hisray hits Grace Cain like a bolt from the blue. Instantly smitten, she abandons her life in the city to follow him to his idyllic Pacific island. There he teaches Grace the ways of the deep, and she learns to sink to unimaginable depths on one single breath. As their world narrows to the two of them, she learns, too, the exquisite pleasures of her body--but also that Storm hides as many secrets as the sea. As he pushes Grace further and further beyond her limits--both in and out of the water--her resistance grows, but so does Storm's need to control her. With a secret of her own to protect, Grace starts to realise that she is in deeper and more dangerous water than she has ever imagined possible. Brilliant, mesmerising, incendiary and haunting, Storm and Grace explores the dazzling thrill of the deep, and the terrors that lie in its shadows. 'Heyman has crafted a remarkable novel that compresses and concentrates its power before exploding with a terrible, urgent truth: love and death, the closer they get to the bottom of the ocean, are inseparable. Read it and you will not forget it.' Malcolm Knox, author of The Wonder Lover 'It took my breath away: the poetry of its sentences; the sensory richness of its moments; the depths and turns of its story--beguiling and brutal.' Ashley Hay, author of The Railwayman's Wife

Episode1, Season 11 of The Book Club (Australian ABC TV) and I couldn't be happier. Everyone else is at hockey and I've got a quiet half hour to indulge in more book stuff!

Cataluna6 Gah!! I missed that it's started again. 8y
Michelle_mck It's on the planner hope I get to or tonight or iview in bed tonight 8y
MrsMalaprop ❤️❤️, but you've cropped out Clementine 😧. She was rather quiet actually. Love that show 😊. I stayed up to watch it last night. 8y

LeeRHarry I stayed up too 😊 I agreed with Marieke re the first book but maybe not quite so vehemently 😏 8y
Sue Yay! 8y
Joanne1 @Cataluna6 iView!! That's how I watch everything. 8y
Joanne1 @MrsMalaprop that was unintentional. My photo had all five in but when I put it into Litsy it cropped the two guests out. She was quiet, I find Marieke annoyingly overbearing some episodes and this was one of them! BTW if you're a Victorian Clem Ford (along with Kate Grenville and Hannah Kent) are speaking at Clunes Booktown this year. It's a great festival. 8y
Joanne1 @Michelle_mck perfect in bed viewing! 8y
Joanne1 @LeeRHarry yes, the discussion didn't make me want to rush out and get that book (though I have vastly different literary views to Marieke Hardy, if Jason had given it the thumbs up it would have been hot on my list). I did immediately put a hold on the second book at the library though. 8y
LeeRHarry @Joanne1 I put a hold on that one and one of Jen's picks - I might head up to Clunes on the Sat, unfortunately the session for Hannah Kent is sold out on that day 😔 8y
Joanne1 @LeeRHarry my bookclub rent a house and spend the whole weekend (fri-sun) being total book nerds. I'll be away this year and I'm so jealous, the line up is great. Having said that, I'm spending a week in Samoa 🇼🇸. 8y
MrsMalaprop @Joanne1 & @LeeRHarry Neither of the books leapt out at me. I'm from Victoria but live in WA. I saw Clem and Marieke at the Perth Writer's Festival earlier this year. I missed out on Hannah Kent as she was on the same time as Women of Letters which took priority for me ❤️. 8y
LeeRHarry @Joanne1 that's a great idea! Maybe I'll suggest this to my book group for next year 😊 Wow Samoa! That will be fab ! 😊 8y
ReadingEnvy A book club on TV?!? 8y
Joanne1 @ReadingEnvy oh yes indeed! 8y
Victoria_Clyne @LeeRHarry Hannah Kent is doing two talks as well participating in the Women in Writing panel, though one of her talks is on the Sunday. 8y
LeeRHarry @Victoria_Clyne thanks for the heads up - I'll have a closer look at the event list 😊 8y
Victoria_Clyne No worries @LeeRHarry. Wouldn't want you to miss out. I've bought tickets to the Sunday Hannah Kent talk as well as the Women in Writing panel and Kate Grenville. I am super excited and very disappointed for @joanne1. 8y
Marchpane @LeeRHarry Jen mentioned Storyland, was it that one? I thought it was wonderful 8y
Joanne1 @Marchpane that one sounded great. 8y
LeeRHarry @Marchpane that's the one! Glad you thought it was fab 😊 8y
Marchpane @Joanne1 @LeeRHarry The lineup for future episodes looks awesome too (I'm excited 😊) http://www.abc.net.au/tv/firsttuesday/comingup/ So many great books! 8y
Joanne1 @Marchpane yes, I thought the same thing. I'm looking forward to this season so much. 8y
Cataluna6 Thank goodness for iView! That's how I watched this episode, but I've set it to record each week now so I don't miss it. 8y
Joanne1 @Cataluna6 absolutely! 8y
