Oh, hello there opening paragraph! ? "Heista kopp"? "Shaftich Shreeda"? "I was only almost sixteen"?
Looks like Manitoba Canadian English is as Google worthy as the Jamaican English (I'm reading in A Brief History of Seven Killings). Apparently Manitoba has a strong influence of Niederdeutsch.
Leniverse Oh, and what kind of person names their child Fleeda Shreeda? 😂 8y
BestOfFates I had no idea there was that strong a dialect in Manitoba! 8y
Leniverse @BestOfFates I think the book is set in the 1960s and most of the people in the book's rural area speak "Flat German" mixed with a bit of English. And the whole book is written with German syntax and several German words apparently spelled phonetically. It's crazy, but the language nerd in me rejoices! ? 8y
