This was a very emotional book made even more powerful because it's read by the author. Cary Grant truly seemed as charming in real life as he was on screen, but he was very troubled. The longer his relationship with Dyan Cannon continued, the worse it got. I had to stop listening because the book was too depressing for too long towards the end. I still love Cary Grant, but be careful if you don't want you image of him tarnished. #LitsyAtoZ

theresidentromantic That's hard. On one hand, I read your blurb and felt my heart break a little bit. I've loved his movies my whole life and love that movie persona, I thought it was real. On the other, what right do we have to let someone's mental illness or personal issues tarnish the life work of that person, which is that perfect persona we were given to love? It's a fine celebrity line we walk, now more than ever, I think. 6y
EclecticBookLover @theresidentromantic It is hard. I think my opinion of him hasn't drastically changed because it was something he could help. Mental health has come a long way since the 1960s and the treatments are much better too. It definitely wasn't an easy read and as difficult as it was I am really glad I listened to it. 6y
theresidentromantic @EclecticBookLover And I think public awareness has helped too, though it definitely isn't at all what it could be. It just reminds me how many people were taken aback by Robin William's death and how sad that was. I hope your day is a little happier than starting with this read! 6y
EclecticBookLover @theresidentromantic I agree with you. Thank you! Luckily I finished the book a few days ago and I'm just catching up on my Litsy posts 😁 6y

Here's my next #audiobook. I've been watching a lot of Cary Grant movies lately so I figured this would be a good one to follow up Alan Cumming with. #audiostitching #LitsyAtoZ

Although I liked Dyan's humor and open story telling, don't read books about celebrities you adore! Cary Grant was a man with a traumatic childhood and many problems, his relationships showed this. Good book, sad story.
