Low pick
This Audiobook sure made my roadtrip seem much shorter than the 7hours it was.
But in the end I felt a bit let down.

The twist was real obvious to me, and I think that took away a lot of the wonderment that this book is supposed to evoke.

I'm definitely adding Hidden Pictures to my TBR as I see everyone is recommending it.

I'm so glad I took my own advice and got the Audiobook for the second installment of D.O.D.O
This felt like a totally different book from the first. All the characters I came to care for were either not there at all, or pushed aside so much that they became inconsequential.
I didn't like the new character, and it felt like we only ever travelled to one place - one I didn't care for.
And the ending was such a disappointment I can't even...

julesG It's been years since I read it. I enjoyed it, but probably because at that point it had also been years since I read DODO. I also missed characters. 4d
TheAromaofBooks I was SO disappointed in this book. 4d

Enchanted_Bibliophile @julesG I think if I read it years apart I might have enjoyed it more, but as is not that much. 5h
julesG It wasn't a 5 star read, though. I think I liked returning to the story-universe 4h

My second Anne Tyler this month. I seem to be in the mood for well-written observations on normal life. Micah is a quiet, well-mannered IT expert/apartment block caretaker who maintains routines in his everyday life almost to the point of obsession, until events throw the routines off track. It‘s a gentle, character-driven short novel and I adored it.

TheEllieMo @sherrisilvera I read French Braid last year and thought it was so-so, but I‘ve really enjoyed both this one and Three Days In June, so I think I just can‘t have been in the right frame of mind last year. 1w

An excellent combination of modern - psychological - and old school horror.

The most unique "monster" I've read in a while.

Val is always a solid 4 star read for me.
I love her characters, their relationships and the very realistic growth they show.

Karen and her cold cases are quickly becoming my most favourite. The way Val structure these stories makes it page turners even knowing there's no life to save at the end.

This installment had a very intriguing plot and is set during COVID, so every normal thing had to be done slightly differently.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 1w
julieclair Great review! I have never read any of her books, but now I want to! 2d
Enchanted_Bibliophile @julieclair Definitely try her out. The Grave Tattoo is a great standalone if you don't want to commit to a series right away 5h

Light pick. This retelling of Cinderella combines folk/fairy tales from different cultures, and I enjoyed reading the intro from this 10th anniversary edition to hear the reasons for Lo‘s decisions on the structure of the novel. I didn‘t quite click with the writing style, but the last few chapters flew by for me, so worthy of a pick rating. #SundayBuddyRead #LitsyAToZ #LetterA #52BookClub25 #AFairyTaleRetelling

This is only my 2nd book by this author (I loved Dark Matter!) and I‘m not a sci-fi expert, but I thought this one was also top-notch!

This has been on my radar forever. I had an audible credit so I decided to go the audiobook route. So far I really like it. I like the narrator and the author has done a good job of describing the evolution of reality television.

Added bonus- I can use it for the #letterC in the #LitsyAtoZ challenge. @Texreader

This started out with real promise, but quickly derailed.
The multiple POV and the 3 different time lines with the first person voices sounding so much alike made this too much work for the mediocre end.

Texreader Whew! These can be some tough “listens”!! 2w
Enchanted_Bibliophile @Texreader I'm so glad I had the audio, otherwise I would have DNF it 2w
TheAromaofBooks Personally, if there are more than 2 POVs, I think the entire book should be in third person instead. 2w
Enchanted_Bibliophile @TheAromaofBooks Totally agree, it just makes for easier reading. 2w

Mehso-so

Honestly I got this book because of #CoverLove

But I found the story lacking. It reads like a YA, the characters feel childish and absolutely nothing happens for the biggest part of the book.
