Out of Sheer Rage
Out of Sheer Rage: Wrestling with D. H. Lawrence | Geoff Dyer
2 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
A critical study of D.H. Lawrence is continually derailed by the author's unwillingness to tackle his subject, in this paradoxical meditation on the frustrations of being a writer.

Emilymdxn Wow I thought I‘d do so well on this list and I‘ve only read six of them! They‘re really right in the beginning where they say narrative nonfiction is easily overlooked 4y
TheBookHippie @Emilymdxn I‘m over here writing down books to add to my TBR and I read a ton of nonfiction ❤️😂📖 but I think they‘re right. It‘s overlooked. 4y
8little_paws I've read 10 of them and added a bunch to my list. Sorry but no matter how many times I'm told it's amazing I'm still not reading any more DFW, nor am I picking Barbarian Days 😃 4y

Nebklvr I am at 6 too with many that have been on my TBR fir quite awhile😭 4y
GingerAntics I‘m not sure I agree with some of this list. I read more nonfiction than fiction, and I haven‘t read a single book on this list. It seems most of the list is memoirs and exposés. There is a world of nonfiction outside of this list that isn‘t even considered here. I think I added one book from this list to my Wish List and another one was already on it. I‘m kind of “eh” on this list. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I picked up some TBR 🤦🏽‍♀️ and some I‘d never read 🤣🤣 I love reading these lists -it‘s always interesting to me. So far fellow littens are the best critics. 4y
Suet624 Thank you! I question some of their choices as well, but some sound pretty interesting. 4y
VioletBramble I read a lot of nonfiction- mostly science and nature books. I‘ve only read 9 books on this list. 3 more titles are on my wish list. The rest didn‘t interest me. 4y
GingerAntics The TBR is always growing. 🤣😂🤣 Nonfiction is such a large genre, it‘s almost not even a genre, but a family/group of genres. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics RIGHT?? I prefer nonfiction for me reading time and it‘s so varied in subject matter I agree. 4y
Scochrane26 How do they not have Ta-nehisi Coates on here?! 4y

I love this book. Geoff Dyer makes it look easy -- writing about not writing about D. H. Lawrence. No biggie, he's just remaking what's possible in nonfiction. #recommendsday
