If this is your first Ann Garvin book, I encourage you to read On Maggie‘s Watch which is MUCH better than The Dog Year. This book had a very long beginning & an abrupt ending. I felt like 95% of the book was leading up to the last chapter. Ultimately I feel like the book would‘ve been better had the first 300 or so pages been consolidated into maybe 150, then the last half of the book could have been an extended version of the final chapter.

The main character Lucy is pretty self absorbed, childish and spoiled however the end ties it all up nicely. The other characters are neat, they come and go throughout the story and leave valuable input for Lucy. It's a good read to kill some time.

Pickpick

I was going to do laundry and some computer work this afternoon, but thought I'd read a chapter first. Or two. Needless to say, neither the laundry nor the computer work has been touched. Oops. A good read - I'm not too sure about some of the conclusions, but overall quite enjoyable.
(I tried to take a photo of my cat, who was lying on my leg, with this book, but he was having none of it. So you get Mr Ace instead.)

"What'd they talk about?"
"I'm not supposed to tell you. It's Alcoholics Anonymous. What goes on in the Maplewood Serenity Center stays at the Maplewood Serenity Centre."
This made me LOL. Quite enjoying this one so far.

This book was based on watching a woman who is clearly rich shoplift. And I wanted to make a story up about why
