Barney Kettles bewegte Bilder
Barney Kettles bewegte Bilder | Kate De Goldi
7 posts | 2 read | 1 to read

Pickpick

Needed about 50 pages to really get into this but then suddenly all – the story, the characters, the writing style – fell into place and got me hooked. So many issues (siblings, coming of age, neighbourhood, community) are artfully woven in so that my interest never decreased.

The end was very surprising. Never had expected that.

I hope that more of Kate de Goldi‘s books will be translated because it‘s no typical children‘s/young adult‘s book.

Sunday morning reading in bed. 😍
With the coffee my significant other just brought me. (Big love – for in-bed-reading, my significant other and him bringing me coffee to my bedside. 🥰)

Meanwhile the book has me hooked. At first Barney and Ren were too precocious for me but by now there are so many vivid strands that they grew into the plot. (May sound strange but that‘s how I feel.)

julesG Enjoy! I was up at the break of dawn again. (Senile Bettflucht?) 6y
Buechersuechtling @julesG That happened to me yesterday. 🙄 I read half an hour while the sun rose. Then my significant other woke, so I decided to go back to bed. What didn‘t keep me from taking a nap yesterday afternoon. 🤭 6y
Buechersuechtling @julesG But isn‘t it really nice to be awake when everyone else is still sleeping❓ Observing the new day ➕ having some quiet time completely for yourself❓ 6y
Buechersuechtling @julesG I am more of a night owl 🦉 – but I love that quiet, bubbly feeling when I take a look out of my windows before I go to sleep in the middle of the night. That feeling of secrecy and fraternity when I detect a lighted window or a night crawler heading home or from one intermediate target to another. ☺️ 6y
julesG Sure. It is nice. Especially since my neighbours are relatively loud until late. Anyway, since I have a week without my kids now it's reasonably quiet anyway. But, I managed to do a lot of things before anyone was up and can now enjoy watching TV (Game of Thrones) while having coffee. 😁 6y

Thanks @vumblereads for posting this quiz:

https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/which-great-american-read-are-you/

Additionally: Funny that we “are” the same book. Have you already had the time to read “The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy”❓ I agree with @wanderinglynn that it‘s a great book/series and definitely worth a read.

vumblereads You‘re welcome! Yes, I took it again and changed a couple things and I still got the same result 😂 so I added it to my stack of books to read. I can‘t escape it. 6y
Buechersuechtling @vumblereads I used to read the series once a year when I was in school and with every re-read discovered new things. A weird, funny trip that takes itself not too serious. 6y

“Still” not completely cheering this one.
The characters until now seem a bit too much over the edge to come off as nerdy in a lovely way. Reminds me of these “Gilmore Girls” episodes where the producers at all costs tried to create a weird but lovable city – but then Stars Hollow in the end of the episode ended up being ridiculous, absurd and implausible.

I know I put it on my wish list – but I‘m a bit sceptical. The story sounds weird and not like something I‘d like to read now. But I remember putting it on my wish list because someone told me that the books from the publishing company „Königskinder“ are worth it.

Additionally my significant other has drawn it out of my sub blindly so no more beating around the bush. ??‍♀️

Sarah83 Such a great cover 🎉 6y
Buechersuechtling @Sarah83 Yeah, I hope the story is as cozy as the cover. 6y
Sarah83 I haven't started my first Königskinder book. I am quite curious about that one. 6y

Buechersuechtling @Sarah83 My first Königskind was „Zwischen zwei Fenstern“. Some people think it‘s a bit weird – yes in some way it is but that‘s also its peculiar charme. 6y
Sarah83 I need to have a look which one I bought 😂 6y
Buechersuechtling @Sarah83 Do so and let me know. But before enjoy your trip. 6y
