1. Sometimes. Sometimes I can‘t focus because life happenings. Sometimes it‘s not the right time for me to read that book. Sometimes it‘s the book.
2. If I‘m having to force myself to read it. If reading the book feels like work. Or if the book is just terribly written.

TheSpineView I am a mood reader so sometimes I have to put a book down and pick it up later. Thanks for playing! 😊 2d

Did this puzzle to go with my current audiobook, Code Girls by Liza Mundy for #nfNov.

#TIL women were hired do to code breaking during WWII, first as civilians and then being allowed to join the Navy (WAVES) & Army (WACS). Approx. 100,000 women joined the services during WWII, although only nurses were allowed to deploy overseas.

starlight97 Sounds interesting! I'm currently reading a book about the Army Nurse Corps in WW2 and it's fascinating 🤩💉 2d

Continuing #nfNov with Simon Pegg‘s autobiography.
Any other Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz fans?

And can you believe that it‘s been 15 years since Shaun of the Dead was released? Doesn‘t seem like it should be that long ago. I swear 1998 was just a few years ago. . .

Best mail day ever! My #bookhaul from BookOutlet and my monthly puzzle subscription (+ 3 more I bought on sale) from Puzzle Warehouse arrived on the same day! 🥳

Guess what my plans are for this weekend?! 😉

Leftcoastzen I think I might be sorry to hear of a place called puzzle warehouse.💸 1w
wanderinglynn @Leftcoastzen No, no! 😉 It‘s a happy place. I‘ve even been to their brick & mortar store in St. Louis—as good as walking into a bookstore. And really, their monthly subscription is quite reasonable. (I *might* be a puzzle 🧩 enabler 😂) 1w
janeycanuck Monthly puzzle subscription?!? I need to go investigate this immediately. 1w
See All 11 Comments
TheAromaofBooks So tell me more about your puzzle subscription?? This sounds very intriguing! 1w
wanderinglynn @janeycanuck Yep! Every month and I can swap it out if I don‘t like the one they pick. 😀👍🏻 1w
wanderinglynn @TheAromaofBooks I‘m on the standard plan, which means I get one 1000-piece puzzle every month. If I don‘t like the one they select, I can swap it out. I‘ve been a member for 3 years now. And they have fantastic customer service. And if you buy any other puzzles that month, you can opt to have them ship with your monthly one so no shipping. Here‘s more details: https://www.puzzlewarehouse.com/puzzle-of-the-month-club-details/ 1w
mabell Cool! Puzzle Warehouse is 15 min from my house! You can see it from the highway, and it‘s like, huh, there‘s a puzzle store. 🤔 Neat! Good to know what it is! 1w
TheAromaofBooks Thank you for the info! I am definitely checking this out. Just last night my sister and I were talking about how much we love doing puzzles, especially during the dark days of winter! 😆 7d
janeycanuck @wanderinglynn that‘s so cool. Sadly, it looks like I can‘t do it in Canada. I‘ll have to see if there‘s a Canadian one somewhere. 7d
OnlyYoo I had no idea there‘s a puzzle subscription! I wish I had more time to do puzzles. The Disney ones at Barnes and noble are my favorite 7d
wanderinglynn @mabell That‘s so cool! It‘s a pretty awesome store. 👍🏻 7d

1. A book that I fall into so deeply that I cease to be aware of the “real world.”* Like Alice down the rabbit hole.
2. No particular day/time. I always have a book with me so just whenever I have a spare few minutes.

*in quotations because we can also have a fascinating philosophical discussion on what is real. 🤔🧐😉

Crazeedi Excellent answer to number one Lyyn, totally agree 1w

Hello #TeamFestivus! I‘ll be your team captain for the #wintergames. For those that don‘t know me, I‘m Lynn & I live near Seattle, WA. Other than reading, I enjoy hiking, jigsaw puzzles, writing, yoga, and music. And this☝🏻is my dog Dexter.

I want this team to be very interactive & fun. What ideas do y‘all have? Maybe a card swap? And along those lines, are y‘all interested in chatting off-Litsy? Maybe through Slack? Thoughts?

ChasingOm Hooray! I‘m glad to be on another team with you, @wanderinglynn! I know how much time and effort you put into leading things and making things supportive and fun. I‘m in for anything! 1w

Just finishing Being Elmo: A Puppeteer‘s Journey for #nfNov. Amazing story on his journey to Sesame Street.

And #TIL that Elmo was originally performed by veteran puppeteer Richard Hunt, who used caveman-like talk for Elmo. Richard, who had many other characters, got fed up with Elmo & gave it to Kevin Clash to do something with. Kevin considered advice given to him by Frank Oz on bringing a character to life, and the rest is history.

Kimberlone You should look up Kevin Lynch...it might change your opinion after having watched the documentary 2w
wanderinglynn @Kimberlone Can you give me more to go on? When I googled Kevin Lynch, I got an urban planner and I don‘t think that‘s who you mean. 2w

Finished The Secrets of Westminster for #nfNov. And #TIL so much about Westminster including hidden rooms; where the Queen enters Parliament; that traditional pennies are on the clock‘s pendulum to keep the clock‘s time correct; and that the clock‘s largest bell, the hour bell or “Big Ben”, rings out at 117 dbs (equivalent of the roar from a stadium) and weighs 14 tons (compared to the Liberty Bell which weights less than a ton).

Velvetfur I went on a guided tour up the tower and stood right in front of Big Ben as it rang out the hour (we all had earplugs and fingers in our ears too!) - it was so great! If you're ever in London I highly recommend that experience! I didn't know about the other stuff you mentioned though, it sounds really interesting 😊 2w
wanderinglynn @Velvetfur Very cool. I know how loud it was just bring down on the street. So I can‘t imagine being in the tower when it rings. 2w
Velvetfur @wanderinglynn It was still super loud, even with earplugs and fingers, haha! I'm intrigued by how the Queen gets to parliament though, I'll have to look up this documentary, or a similar one - thanks for bringing it to our attention 😁 2w
Verity Re loud bells, not Big Ben but loud bells and ringing are a key plot point in a classic murder mystery - but if I tell you which and how, it entirely spoils the plot! I remember being totally freaked out by it the first time I read it though. 2w

I won this ARC in a BookishFirst raffle. The first impression sucked me in, so when the book arrived today, I dived right in, picking up where the first impression left off.

I fully recommend BookishFirst. I‘ve only been on there a few months, but have won 3 ARCs & I don‘t enter every raffle. Plus, I‘ve also earned a free book.

Check it out: https://www.bookishfirst.com/
If you sign-up, please consider using my Referral-Code: a6818616a3d463e80

TheBookAddict That‘s awesome, let us know what you think of the book when you‘re done. 🙂👍🏽 2w

#nfNov book 3 finished!

And #TIL that scientists hesitate to publish about species‘ personalities because they don‘t want to be seen as anthropomorphizing their subjects. Even Jane Goodall held off publishing her observations for 20 years.

My main takeaway from this book is that humans actually know very little about the creatures we share this blue sphere with, especially the non-mammals.

#nfNov #TIL octopus have short life spans, usually about 4 years. Once the female lays eggs, she doesn‘t live much longer once they hatch—like Charlotte🕷in Charlotte‘s Web. 🐙 But they are amazing creatures!

jb72 Such a good book. I was so sad when they lost an octopus. Just broke my heart. 2w
wanderinglynn @jb72 It‘s so sad how short their lives are in general! Such amazing creatures that we know very little about. 2w

#nfNov #TIL in a little history of codes & ciphers:

During the Civil War, the Confederate Army‘s cipher was so complicated, they became confused by it. 😂

And sometimes they‘d also intercept Union messages, publish them in the newspapers, & invite readers to submit solutions.

Crazeedi I'm interested in reading this one!! 2w

Thanks for the tag @Coleen_Nieto ☺️

1. Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Robin Hobb, Mary Shelley
2. It‘d probably be me just gushing how much I love their books. 😂
3. Several hundred. I haven‘t counted in a long while. 🤔 Something to do this weekend!
4. Tagging some of my newer followers: @Ladyval05 @KendallHershey @AmberHumphries @britt_reads

Addison_Reads Great answers! I'd be unable to form a sentence let alone a question if Neil Gaiman was talking to me. I love his writing. 💚 2w

1. The book reviews/recommendations, the swaps, the games, reading buddies (i.e., pets), general interactions & awesomeness of everyone
2. I can‘t think of anything. I like it all, regardless of whether I actively participate.
3. 🤷🏼‍♀️
4. Depends. Some days a lot, some days (although rare), nothing. I usually post at least once a day.
5. Yes, I enjoy all of them

wanderinglynn 6. I think what‘s great about Litsy is there‘s something for everyone. But if there‘s something I‘m not particularly interested in, I scroll on. Easy peasy. But one functionality thing I‘d like to see is to be able to sort the TBRs or at least search because it can be a pain, even on the desktop version, to try to dig through someone‘s TBR for a swap or a just because gift. 2w
ljuliel Good point , Lynn. It seems that lots of folks would like the TBR area easier to access and sort through. I‘m glad you mentioned the pet photos. I like seeing them too, since I don‘t have a pet. I can see everyone else‘s. 🐈 🐕 🐰 2w
TorieStorieS I would love an easier TBR search!! And the way that you can compare your own categories like you can on Goodreads! 2w

Litsi My suggestions are 1) increase the posting limit 2) limit the content to books - not weddings, dogs without books, vacations, etc. I don‘t need another general topic social media site. 3) create an icon to especially praise a well crafted photo. It keeps Litsy beautiful and is worthy of special note. 4) Make it easier to find posts that respond to your posts. These are all reasons that I use it less than I want to. Thanks for asking. (edited) 2w
Litsi One more thing: an easy way to block posts, not a person, that is not about books. 2w
wanderinglynn @Litsi I can‘t take credit. It was @ljuliel who created the questionnaire. And as far as I know, there‘s no posting limit. (edited) 2w
Litsi The 451 words limit on reviews 2w
wanderinglynn @Litsi Ah, got it. 👍🏻 I was thinking of limits on posts, not the character limit. 2w
janeycanuck @Litsi you can mute specific hashtags from the web version of Litsy. Maybe that would help cut down on the content you don‘t want to see? 2w
marleed @ljuliel I love Litsy and Littens! My suggestion would be an app session setting. Some days I don‘t have time to scroll down my entire feed. I‘d love an option to filter on ‘Picks‘ only - just for that session. ...Also, I love the newish thing where I can follow books I‘ve tagged as read or stacked. It would be fun if i could add to my timeline ‘Picks‘ for specific genres - but not the blurbs or quotes. 2w
ljuliel Thank you for the answers @Litsi. I appreciate your honesty. So many have mentioned wanting a bigger area to post reviews. That‘s one I have trouble with too. I‘m a bit long winded, so it‘s pretty hard to write an adequate review in the space we have. I hope you‘ll stick around, even though there are areas you‘d like to change. . 2w
ljuliel Thanks for the feedback @marleed. I appreciate it 🙂 2w
Litsi I am sticking 2w

Fascinating book that makes me want to go back and study biology.

And the really incredible thing: octopuses are color blind! So then how do they do such excellent camouflage? Scientists really don‘t know but theorize they might “see” with their skin.

#nfNov #TIL one sucker of the giant Pacific octopus can lift 30 pds. Multiply that by 1600 suckers! 😯 I knew octopus (not octopi because octopus is derived from Greek, not Latin) were amazing, but had not idea how amazing.

Extra hour so why not start another documentary for #nfNov. This time it‘s Netflix‘s The Crystal Calls (Making the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance).

And so far #TIL the Henson company originally tried to do CG gelding with puppet skeksis. IMO, it wasn‘t the same. Despite the fact that CGI can do so much more action-wise, I‘m glad they didn‘t go total CGI.

And it just reinforces Jim Henson‘s genius.

#TIL in Bombshell the Hedy Lamarr Story

And she wasn‘t paid a dime for it. Experts also believe that if current trends continue, almost every person on the planet will be connected by frequency hopping (which is the basis for secure WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, cell phones, & military tech).

What an incredible story. Glad I watched it.

#nfNov watching Bombshell The Hedy Lamarr Story

#TIL I knew she was a scientist, held a patent, & her invention was the basis for WiFi. But I did not know that Hedy Lamarr was the model for Snow White and the inspiration for Catwoman. And such a complicated woman.

Megabooks I learned that listening to this book on the way to Dallas. I can‘t believe (well I can) that the government turned her away and told her to sell kisses for war bonds. And she did because she‘s a better person than they deserved! 2w
wanderinglynn @Megabooks She said that people could never get past her face. So sad because she was so intelligent. 2w

If you loved the movie, Cary Elwes‘s memoir is a must read. ❤️❤️❤️ All the stars! ⭐️🌟💫

#TIL when Count Rugen hits Westley with the butt of his sword to knock Westley out, Cary really was accidentally knocked out & woke up in the emergency room. So that shot is 100% real! 😂

#TIL William Goldman, who not only wrote the book but also the screenplay for TPB, freaked out a few times during shooting, including the scene where Buttercup‘s dress catches fire during the fire swamp. Apparently, Bill missed the safety meeting & walked in at the wrong time. 😂
