1 post
Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was one of the great composers of the twentieth century. The premiere of the French composer's "Quartet for the End of Time on January 15, 1941 at -4 degrees Fahrenheit in Stalag VIIIA, a Nazi prison camp, has been called one of the great stories of twentieth century music.

“[I]n an environment that provoked depression and suicide...the source of Messiaen‘s inspiration is compelling...the piece illustrates how captivity paradoxically set free a work that became a testament to creativity, to the unshakable faith of a devout Catholic, to the aspects of belief exemplified in the lives of Messiaen‘s fellow musicians.”

Cinfhen Not gonna lie, that‘s a little wordy for me 😝but I ❤️the graphics 😂 5y
LiterRohde @Cinfhen It is more academic sounding than a novel, but it‘s about a man who had the courage to bring music and life into one of the darkest places - a Nazi prison camp. But I have definitely noticed that Litsy as a whole deems my my less heady quotes more popular. (edited) 5y
Cinfhen Ha!! The truth is that sounds like a really important and necessary read and one I might enjoy if only the writing was a bit “dummied” down. I just down have all that brain power anymore 😜 5y
