Three Tales
Three Tales | Gustave Flaubert
Three stories by a French master First published in 1877, these three stories are dominated by questions of doubt, love, loneliness, and religious experience together they confirm Flaubert as a master of the short story. A Simple Heart relates the story of Felicite, an uneducated serving-woman who retains her Catholic faith despite a life of desolation and loss. The Legend of Saint Julian Hospitator, inspired by a stained-glass window in Rouen cathedral, describes the fate of a sadistic hunter destined to murder his own parents. The blend of faith and cruelty that dominates this story may also be found in Herodias, a reworking of the tale of Salome and John the Baptist. This new edition is a completely new translation with a new introduction by Geoffrey Wall, Flaubert's acclaimed biographer. It features a chronology, further reading, and explanantory notes. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators."

⭐⭐/5. I may be the only one who didn't find this one interesting. Life's just too short to read bad/boring books.

Everybody on my newsfeed all over social media seems to have already seen Beauty and the Beast and I'm stuck in places where I can't find it in the original language version!! So while the anticipation is killing me, I am indulging in my memory from a couple days ago where I nerded out and felt just like Belle walking with my books in and out of bookstores in provincial France ♡♡
