Mehso-so

SATURN‘S CHILDREN is a gloriously weird spy thriller about what robots get up to when their creators have gone extinct. I liked the first half a lot, but my interest waned dramatically throughout the lead-in to the denouement. Clever though it is, it‘s dense enough, with enough odd turns, that it feels a lot longer than 300-odd pages.

Be aware there‘s a fair bit of robot sex and also some rape of both the bodily and mind varieties.

I swear the cover on the copy I'm reading is more tasteful than the one that shows on Litsy. But this one pretty much sums up the story, at least. Mind you, despite all the sex it's probably my preferred Stross novel so far -- not high praise, though, as I've not been a fan of anything else he's written. At the moment, I'm still curious, but I may bail in the end...

Robots having sex with other robots as a casual "How do you do?" is a new concept for me. Imagine you were going to take a ferry somewhere and brought your car with you. From the moment you drove your car to the ferry, your car and the ferry started having robot sexual intercourse... while you're sitting in the car and your car even referred to the ferry as her boyfriend. Also, you're a repurposed sexbot who feels awkward about all this robot sex.

Hornsby78 Wuuuuuuuhhhh??? This is...different. 8y
