pickA nice, quick read. George, author of the My Side of the Mountain trilogy and the Julie of the Wolves books, tells lovely stories about the temporary pets she and her kids had. Crows, fish, toads, salamanders, snakes, mice, and so much more. While I generally disagree with abducting wildlife to raise as pets, hers were treated well and mostly returned to the wild. Less a how-to than a memoir.
