Animal Poems written by Valerie Worth and illustrated by Steve Jenkins is a great P book to use for teaching students about poetry and animals as a RA. Each page has beautiful illustrations and a poem about an animal. The poems are mature for elementary school and can make students critically think about their meaning. #ucflae3414f17

I would use this lesson plan after reading the book to students so they can make their own free form animal poems. They'll be encouraged to use higher level thinking in order to write a well thought out poem in groups.

JuliaMurra This lesson would align with UDL 5.3 building fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance because the students are given many examples and do a "poetry walk." This would also align with EL 10 teach think, pair and share strategies in cooperative groups since students will be collaborating to accomplish an end goal together. 7y
Juliemorell This looks like a cute book! I like the link you provided; it's a great way to get children familiar with and interested in poetry. 7y
