pickI love it when Diana Wynne Jones makes you think you're reading a certain type of story until BAM! Some choice tidbit clues you in to another reality altogether and you've gotta twist everything you know at least a quarter turn to the left so it all fits.
She does it very well in POWER OF THREE. As an added bonus, this children's fantasy published in 1976 is deeply concerned with issues like water rights. Hello, topical fiction.
This year I've done a pretty good job of reading books soon after I've bought them, with the exception of my April Book Market haul. I need a kick in the pants, so I hereby swear I won't even go to the next Book Market, which starts on the 27th, unless I've read at least four of these six neglected books.

pickI was pleasantly surprised by this title because while different from her Chrestomanci & Howl books it is still written in her inimitable style. This standalone novel delves into faery tribes and faery vs. man issues with an array of interesting characters. An enjoyable tale. DWJ was the best!
