I think this book Sparks captivity and really encourages children to see letters in their everyday lives. It can be a great book to teach about language and also art.

This Caldecott Honor RA-NF story shows that actions really do speak louder than words🤐 This is a great picture book for young students looking to find beauty in the world while also learning the alphabet. UDL principle 1.1 is used: Offer ways of customizing the display of information. Students can shout aloud where they see the letters in the pictures- a great engagement activity for kindergarten. #UCFLAE3414SP21

Spearsall continued: ESOL strategy: modeling, explaining and scaffolding, are used while presenting this as well. https://www.the-best-childrens-books.org/Alphabet-City.html This is a great website explaining the books, awards, and even gives a preview of the illustrations and what the background info is about. The website is called the best children‘s books for a reason!🌱🌱 4y
KeanaE What a great lesson to learn early on! A great way to incorporate this invisible curriculum into your classroom! 4y
PatriciaS I love any alphabet lesson that incorporates real life relatable ways to look at things, and expand students knowledge of the 🌎 world around them. Great review 👍 thank you for a new book to add to my book 📚 list and my classroom library 😁. 4y
DrSpalding Another excellent post. Here is another idea! I am a big fan of creating class books. After reading aloud and allowing the students to shout out the letters, you could have your students create their own, creative alphabet book by integrating the arts. Place the book in your classroom library and I guarantee your students will gravitate to the books they have created. This fosters the idea that they are young authors! 4y

“X and Y” These are my two favorite pictures from the book!

I would show this to a kindergarten class because most have just mastered the alphabet, and will probably have the most fun with this book. You can do so many activities with this book afterwards as well! For example, kids can get creative and design the first letter of their names. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about urban landscapes.

I loved the city use of objects and daily visuals to be used as letter in the alphabet. This is a very creative and stylistic choice that the reader will have to pay close attention to. I think it is great that children will have to use their imagination and truly explore the pages in depth.
