At the age of 13 Miyax is unhappily married and faced to live with hard decisions, mostly involve life or death contemplations. She runs away from her life struggles but is left all on her own. This story is about a pet dog named Spunky who is frustrated he can‘t communicate with his family. The family assumes he wants a friend so they get a cat! This is not what he wanted at all, but through this experience he learns the new benefits and accomplishments he has when spending time with her. This story is realistic in the sense that it involves hardships. Sol lost her father and is trying to live her life with her sister without him anymore. This book is a story of adventure and hope. The topic may be controversial in the way the issues she faces aren't extremely common in the everyday child, but also a good lesson for children to understand the way other people's lives may be.

“If he were older and stronger, would he have given water to those men? Or would he, like most of the group,. Have kept his water for himself?”

The tone in this book really helps you to feel like you are there. The sensory element is great and you can really sympathize with Omu.
I loved how the illustrations were sectioned off and in a comic strip type of design.
This book had very simple text and I think the rhythm reinforced the meaning. This book was a story of a young boy connecting with his grandpa through drawings rather than language. The tone of the poem is adventurous and exciting.
