Killer
Killer: My Life in Hockey | Dan Robson, Doug Gilmour
2 posts | 1 read
They called him Killer. Doug Gilmour didnt look fearsome on a pair of skatesbeing an undersized forward would plague him during his early careerbut few players matched his killer instincts in the faceoff circle or in front of the net. The Hockey Hall of Famer from Kingston, Ontario, played for seven teams over his twenty-year career, netting 450 goals and 964 assists during the regular season and another 188 points in the playoffs, making him one of the highest-scoring centres of all time. Gilmour played a big role in the 1989 Stanley Cup victory, scoring the winning goal for the Calgary Flames. Perhaps most famously, he led the Toronto Maple Leafs to multiple winning seasons and in 1993, took them to the brink of their first Stanley Cup final in decades, only to lose out on one of the most controversial calls in hockey history. In Killer, Doug Gilmour bares all about his on- and off-the-ice exploits and escapades. Gilmour has always been frank with the media, and his memoir is as revealing as it is hilarious. He played with the greatest players of his generation, and his love for the game and for life are legendary.

Pickpick

This book talks about Doug “Killer“ Gilmour's life. It talks about him growing up in Kingston, Ontario and moving away at age 17 to play junior hockey to playing 20 seasons in the NHL and up until his retirement from the league in 2003 along with all his exploits in between. I really enjoyed this book and I think you will enjoy it too If you like books about hockey and personal stories. The reoccuring motif of this book is overcoming obstacles...

TheKidUpstairs Welcome to Litsy! I have fond memories of laughing at my brother for not-so-subtly stalking Dougie around a National Sports before finally getting up the courage to say hi in the parking lot. 3y
ReidEnman in order to achieve your goals. This motif is present in the book when he has to overome his small stature and people not wanting to take a change on him because of his size. He also battled adversity off the ice in the form of a brain bruse caused by a near fatal concussion that left which he played three games through before getting tested for a concussion. 3y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Reid! I know it is hard to find a motif in a non-fiction piece but you did a great job! 6/6 3y

1. My parents traditionally bought each kid a new pair of skis when we reached our full height. I loved those things. They unfortunately disappeared during a house reno 😒
2. I've already bought my husband the tagged book, and two Cornwells: The Last Kingdom, and The Pale Horseman.
3. 35 since October 29th! Hi, fellow 1982 baby!
4. Yup! 120ish km, which is 75ish miles.
