“Once when the lightning flashed a little brown sandpiper skids across the sand on his way home, so swiftly that he is gone before the light leaves the sky.”

Illustration- The last picture shows the sun coming back out and showing a beautiful rainbow.
This book would be perfectly any 2nd or 3rd graders. It is a longer read that some of the younger picture books.
Caldecott Honor Book. This book was oddly set up. There was a page that was just words and a page that was just pictures. The illustrations alone could tell the story.
“A queer yellow light spreads over the earth now, so faint, so fine, so beautiful that the little boy lets out his breath with a soft whistling sound.”
It was great. I find it really cool how the words on our different pages then the illustrations.
“Thats the rainbow little son says his mother, to show the storm has passed. And she slipped her arm around him so gently he didn‘t notice, as he watched the beautiful sunlit colors arching over the world.”
My favorite part of the book was the different stories it was telling about different people while the storm was happening. The illustrations were also my favorite.
This book was really good! It is very informational for kids to learn about the weather. The illustrations were spot on for the choice of wording used. This would definitely be a book I would read to my class.
