The story begins with the main character in a monkey suit standing on a chair. He asks questions as he changes animal suits whenever his feelings change. For example, he is in a chicken suit when he is scared. Soon, he find out that it‘s natural and everyone else changes suits as well. 7y
This book would be wonderful for a guided reading during small groups. It‘s short which means it can be read quickly. It shows various examples of metaphor and can help students better understand figure of speech. It would also be useful when discussing feelings with students and what is appropriate and not appropriate for each one. 7y
Preview the term metaphor and the types of feelings in the book. Then review the examples of metaphor found in the book as well as the feelings they are representing. Give additional examples and allow student to share their own examples. 7y
Create a vocabulary list with simplified definitions and pictures that represent each word.
Go over the vocabulary and symbolism before, during, and after the read.
Check for comprehension. 7y
