A 25000-copy Bestseller in French, Arvida reads like a Proust-obsessed Cormac McCarthy whose muse is a mining town in Quebec.

Panpan

I hardly ever read short stories, and then when I do I end up with this. Most of the stories are somewhat oblique, and I get tired of not knowing fully what‘s going on. This is okay sometimes! But here I found it obnoxious—because the sentences are rather bland, to me, and not taking risks. I couldn‘t really grasp hold of any of the material: it all felt too flimsy and ethereal to dig into in any constructive way. I hope this is making sense.

“The editors believe that translation is the lifeblood of literature, that a language that is not in touch with other linguistic traditions loses its creative vitality...”

Taken right from the Biblioasis intro.

That's me, feeling like a hothouse flower in this hospital room.
