“If the sky turns a color sky never was before just watch it. Thats part of the magic. Thats the way to start a day“
“If the sky turns a color sky never was before just watch it. Thats part of the magic. Thats the way to start a day“
I would use this book to teach children about history. This book touches on how people throughout history embraces the day. Also, I would use this book to teach children to live every day to the fullest.
This is an award winning book about starting the day and living every day to the fullest. This book talks about how cavemen, the Aztecs, ancient Egyptians, celebrated the dawn.
“And everywhere they knew what gifts the sun wanted”
I found this book difficult to read. It took me a few times through to be able to grasp what was being said. The illustrations, however, are beautiful and give more meaning to the story once the ideas are figured out.
This Caldecott Award winning book tells of the different ways days are started around the world. Different cultures have their own traditions and routines, but we all wake to the same sun.
This book was beautifully written, decriving the mornings of different people in the world! The pictures draw you in and are very beautiful. The whole book is wow!
This Caldecott award winning book is a creative way of describing different morning tranditions in the world and different cultures. In the end no matter where you are, we are all under the same sun.
I loved this book! I think the illustrations were beautiful and the story was even better. I think it‘s a great story to read to children about how great every day can be!
The way to Start a Day, winner of the Caldecott award is a great book. It has great illustrations and tells a beautiful story on how it‘s great to start each day! It tells the story of different cultures and how they start their days, and how great the sun is.
“Some people
say
there is
a new sun
every day,
that it
begins
it‘s life
at dawn
and lives
for one day
only.”
This book is very unique (1977). The color usage and way in which the sentences are set are something that I have not seen before. I enjoyed the story and meaning of this book and would recommend highly.
The word usage throughout the book was descriptive and involved imagery. Something that aided with the imagery were the illustrations. They were some of the most beautiful I had seen in a book.
“When you feel the sun
you'll feel
the song too.“
“A morning sun needs to be sung to. A new day needs to be honored.”
I love the simplicity of life this illustration shows.
Caldecott honor book. I love that it was about ways people honor the morning sun.
“Some people say there is a new sun every day, that it begins it‘s life at dawn and lives for one day only.”
I enjoyed the historical references that the author brought into the story, such as the Mayan empire.
This book could be enjoyed by a variety of people. I think it gives a great message of starting every day being thankful for the day that you were given. I think the book got a little repetitive but besides that I enjoyed the historical aspect that the author brought into the book.
Fell in love with this children's book today (from 1986). All about various ways people honor the morning sun. Here's the page 1 text (which is formatted like poetry): "The way to start the day is this -- Go outside and face the east and greet the sun with some kind of blessing or chant or song that you made for yourself and keep for early morning." The illustration style is spot on. As visually compelling as it is soulful to read.
