The Bandit Queen of India
The Bandit Queen of India: An Indian Woman's Amazing Journey from Peasant to International Legend | Phoolan Devi, Marie-Thérèse Cuny, Paul Rambali
2 posts | 8 to read
When trust fund baby-turned-waitress Allie and her friends accidentally open a Door to Hell in the basement of Sally's Diner, they don't realize the havoc it will wreak on their Brooklyn neighborhood. Of course, the upside to murder-happy demons coming through the Door all the time is that Allie gets her own sexy and mysterious demon hunter: the dark-eyed, leather-clad, Stetson-wearing Ryan.Ryan teaches Allie everything he knows about fighting the creatures of the underworld-but refuses to give in to the sexual tension that simmers between them. Allie has almost given up on taking her relationship with Ryan to the next level when there's a surge in demonic activity... and the Door disappears. Now Allie and Ryan have to travel through Hell, literally, to try to stop Hell from taking over the Earth. They may not survive the trip, but Allie is about to discover something very important: Mortal peril is a total turn-on.

“Before I was married...I looked forward to being able to wear bells around my ankles and silver necklaces around my neck, but not any more, not since I had learned what they represented for the man who gave them. A necklace was no prettier than a piece of of rope that ties a goat to a tree, depriving it of freedom.â€

TW: sexual assault
Phoolan Devi was the bandit queen of India. She ran away from an arranged marriage and was not accepted back by her family so she joined a bandit gang. Following a horrific assault she wreaked vengeance on a rival gang killing many. She was jailed for many years but after her release even became an MP. This is the most brutal book I‘ve ever read but this must be one of the most kick ass women of all time!
