I can‘t figure out how Kurlansky decided on chapter titles. They never made sense to me - like how the chapter on butter has almost nothing about butter in it... but this was so interesting and made me very hungry!

TIL that mare‘s milk doesn‘t curdle like other milk and doesn‘t make good cheese.
Jester continues to be a good reading buddy who insists on sleeping with her paws on my face.
Learned all the things about milk i never knew i wanted to know in an entertaining way. With recipes scattered through out. Great for history lovers, foodies and may come in handy at trivia night!
If you think you know what you're drinking you should read this. It's a really well researched book, very entertaining. I now know so much about cows, butter, cheese and yogurt; wicked corporations and the horrible governments that support them; milky culture (pun) from so many countries. Don't be afraid, reading this will not stop you enjoying milk, you'll just want better milk.
The calm before the bbq storm that is hosting my 30 family members...
Thanks to netgalley for this edition! I have read Salt, but enjoyed this one more. This traces the history of people drinking milk (as opposed to making cheese and yogurt), the production and use of milk, milk scandals, the animals used, the farmers, and more. Lots of recipes too, but the formats were generally odd in this version. Much of the book looks at post-1800 US, so very relatable for me. #nonfiction #food #netgalley
A history of Milk by the author of Cod& Salt facts mixed in with recipes sounds delicious. Thanks @Bloomsbury_Publishing really looking forward to dipping in 🐄
Well I finally caved. I bought a kindle. I already have some netgalley books and my husband‘s shared list. I get migraines reading on my phone or computer—this is soooo much better. I will no longer be hauling actual books to track meets, on trips, or to my car appointment tomorrow. Just wish I could figure out where the table of contents are—even my husband doesn‘t know!
