A wild ride for young adults through the small-town agonies of adolescence, packed with sex, drugs, love and hip hop. Bones Carter spends much of his time trying to avoid germs and the school bully Chase Barnes. Then he meets Naya Kajang, a new exchange student. Naya is brilliant, black and beautifuland wants to free the world of prejudice. She thinks Bones is a well of untapped potential. Bones thinks shes a bit lame. But she makes him feel something he didnt think he could. A hilarious and touching debut full of oddball humour and incredible heart. Brendan Lawley is a writer living in Melbourne. Many of the events depicted in Bonesland are inspired by his and others experiences growing up in country Victoria. This is his first novel. As soon as I finish school, Ill have the car packed. Ill thunder past the dull cardboard boxes that Banarang calls shops, Ill skim over the Bridge Street potholes without feeling a bump and Ill fly up the freeway, bound for the city and civilisation.

Day 23 of the #ChillingPhotoChallenge is Bones and we have quite a few skeletal decorations around our house that we actually keep up ALL YEAR ROUND! My husband loves dark decor and I balance it out with my nerdy stuff! 😂

Astonishing cover. Male MC. Small town Australia. Three chapters in, and I am confronted with strong language, sexism & racism, drug taking and a fierce bond between four teenage boys. It‘s going to be a wild ride. I mean, really, look at that cover. #preview #junerelease2018🇦🇺 #rso #loveozya

CarolynM Looking forward to hearing what you think when you finish this 7y
Missusb I completely loved it @CarolynM while it was tough (as a mother) to read about so much drug taking, and to hear the language these boys use to talk about girls, the narrative was also electric and really funny. The MC felt authentic. I think we need to get over ourselves and find more books like this for boys to read. I think it will speak to them. 7y
CarolynM Good to hear. I've stacked it. There seems to me to be a double standard about what some people think is suitable for kids in books vs TV or movies. I think you're right, boys need relatable books that will give them some stuff to think about. 7y
