Breaking Up with God
Breaking Up with God: A Love Story | Sarah Sentilles
3 posts | 2 read | 11 to read
"Honest, like down-to-the-core honest, beyond what most people are capable of,especially in public on the topic of faith." —Kelly Corrigan, New York Times bestselling author of The Middle Place Inthe tradition of Barbara Brown Taylor and Sue Monk Kidd, Sarah Sentilles offers a poignant, beautifully wroughtmemoir of her personal crisis of faith. Sentilleswas on the way to becoming a priest when she ultimately faced the truth: she nolonger believed. Her moving story examines the question of how youleave the most powerful being in the universe—and, if you do, where do you go? Breaking Up with God is an inspiringreflection no matter where you stand on the matter of faith.

Pickpick

Sentilles writes frankly about her gradual separation from Christianity. Starting with the familial yet vaguely romantic nature of her relationship with God, she discusses how learning more about the world and the Christian faith created a chasm. It was so easy to get into this one because a lot of the questions she had are the same ones I've asked over the years. The ending is a little wonky but understandable. I highly recommend this one.

Jennick2004 Sounds like something I could use towards the top of my TBR 💙 6y
OrangeMooseReads Sounds like something I might be interesting in. I‘m sure some of her questions are ones I‘ve too asked over the years. 6y
EchoLogical @SheliaMejia I finished and it blew me away! 6y

Bookish.Leftist.Auntie @EchoLogical It sounds fascinating! Definitely on my TBR as it seems so fitting for where I am now. The more I have learned along the way, the more questions I have. 6y
EchoLogical @OrangeMooseReads @SheliaMejia I hope you ladies are able to read it. I think the best part about it is that after reading the book is knowing that I'm not alone in my feelings. Not to say I feel validated in my stance or anything but it eases a little bit of the unease I have... If that makes sense 😬 6y
Bookish.Leftist.Auntie @EchoLogical It definitely makes sense. It is not a comfortable thing to start seriously questioning faith you were raised to accept without question. 6y

This will probably ruffle a few feathers but here it goes anyway...
Just started this one last night and I struggled with selecting a passage to highlight because it all resonates so strongly but here‘s just a bit of what I‘ve read so far.

EchoLogical Also... I'm way too excited about being the first person to post about this one on Litsy. 🤓 6y
Bookish.Leftist.Auntie Looking forward to your insight and review. My library didn't have this one, but I have requested they add it. 6y
EchoLogical @SheliaMejia At the the rate I'm reading, I'll probably finish it tonight but it'll take me some time to gather my thoughts. I randomly found my copy on iBooks. 6y
