Somehow I ended up with several books on my shelves that are part of a series I've never read before. I think this is the second in the Smoky Barrett series. It refers heavily to earlier events so you aren't lost. It was a fast paced thriller, but I wouldn't call it a mystery, there are no breadcrumbs to be followed really. All the same it was dark, and engaging, trigger warnings for child abuse
