Standing in the trauma room of an emergency department is like standing at ground zero of a nuclear reaction, only it's not radiation that is released-but stories. Stories that are told and retold, sometimes just until the end of the shift, but sometimes for decades. A survivor of domestic violence makes it to the hospital but cannot trust anyone. An anonymous man passes away after being taken to the emergency room, and no one can identify him. The spouse of a cancer patient must decide whether to force her to undergo chemotherapy or to let her pass away in peace. These stories-and all the rest in People of the ER-grapple with what it means to be human in the face of trauma and death. Written by the author of Trauma Room Two, People of the ER, delves deeper into the lives of the patients and staff that work in a small, rural emergency room.

Pickpick

My first listen on my Scrbd trial. I guess this is creative nonfiction 🤷🏻‍♀️ It seemed too bounded in experience to be short stories.

I enjoyed some of his vignettes more than others. Standouts include following a woman from birth to age 90, the elderly man who fell, and his tribute to John Does.

Overall the writing was solid but, IMO, could‘ve been tighter. A soft pick. 3.5⭐️

The picture is how I enjoyed the last half hour!

Cinfhen Interesting for your first pick!! I just finished this memoir on Scribd earlier today 5y
Cinfhen And I‘m currently listening to this one 5y
Megabooks @Cinfhen you‘re always so good with the recs!! 😘😘 we‘re #memoirpeople 🥰 it is an interesting first book, but you know I love all things medical. Makes me feel like I‘m still in the game lol! 5y

Megabooks @rjsthumbelina I have this on my TBR! Thanks for reminding me! 🤩 5y
Cinfhen Enjoy my friend!!! You know I value your recommendations too!!! We do have similar taste #BookBuds 💕💕 5y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I just discovered what you said about popular titles on Scribd. There are a number that they say “won‘t be available until March 27“ that are newer or more popular authors. There‘s still a lot to choose from, but it wouldn‘t be enough to make me stop my audible subscription and not have the choice to keep titles and also get the newest ones without a problem. 5y
Cinfhen I‘m discovering if I only save one tittle at a time my selection of titles appear wider and more options are available throughout the month. It doesn‘t compete with Audible in my opinion/ I think Audible is MUCH better but it may be just as good as Kindle Unlimited 5y
Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks for the tip! I may or may not keep this after the trial because my library is generally good about titles, but it‘s nice to have it now! 💖 5y
Cinfhen I agree, it‘s nice to have a 2 month trial period to see what works 😉 5y

Deeply humanitarian, Dr Green‘s stories are poetry in motion. This is so much more than ER stories.
