Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come
Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come: An Introverts Year of Living Dangerously | Jessica Pan
Extroverts have all the fun. Or so Jessica Pan thought. When she found herself jobless and friendless, sitting in the familiar Jess-shaped crease on her sofa, she couldn't help but wonder what life might have looked like if she had been a little more open to new experiences and new people, a little less attached to going home instead of going to the pub. So, she made a vow: to push herself to live the life of an extrovert for a year. She wrote a list: improv, a solo holiday and... talking to strangers on the tube. She regretted it instantly. Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come follows Jess's hilarious and painful year of misadventures in extroverting, reporting back from the frontlines for all the introverts out there. But is life actually better or easier for the extroverts? Do they really have all the fun?

Not feeling great today so I took advantage of my laying around to finish this one up. It was highly enjoyable! I don‘t think I could ever do some of the things she did (stand up comedy) but it does have me considering challenging myself by doing some new things and getting out in the world more. I loved the author‘s tone and it was just a fun read

I really enjoyed the first few chapters of this book, but then the book (or me?) seemed to lose steam. It‘s a fun read but I think that I might have enjoyed the Moth presentation of her story a bit more than the book.

1) I received a fermenting crock and flour mill that I ordered awhile back. I have started a batch of sauerkraut in the crock and I am going to try out my new mill next week.
2) I have to work both days this weekend, but I am looking forward to some reading time in the evenings.
3) I am reading the listed book above- so far I am enjoying it!

As a proud introvert, the title of this book really grabbed me. While it was interesting reading about her year of going out of her comfort zone, in my personal opinion she does many things a true introvert would probably never do, like doing improv and stand-up comedy in front of an audience. Still, I learned some things and think this is worth reading. 3.5⭐️

This sounds like my kind of book - about an introvert who doesn‘t like going to events! 😁

I definitely wouldn‘t force myself to do so for a year, but might be fun to read about....

“I‘m in search of something more than a new place, though. I‘m in search of a feeling and a state of being: that magical time when you can‘t possibly predict what‘s going to happen next or whom you are going to meet or where they are going to take you. In this state, everything flows, every surprise is a delight, and new people guide you to special adventures.” 💜

on the audio book...i just couldn‘t get past. the fact that. the author could only read. a few words. between pauses. i applaud her willingness. to read. her own book. especially as a shy introvert. but she was poorly coached. and it didn‘t sound. natural at all. that said, lots of great stories and ideas for introverts to get out of their comfort zones.

MicheleinPhilly I‘m sorry but this made LOL. 5mo

The author calls herself a shintrovert or shy introvert, which seems to suit her. She gives herself a year of trying to be more extroverted and this memoir covers that year. Chatty and engaging, but kept thinking she focused too much on what she imagined extroverts were like, rather than trying to just engage the world around her as an introvert. Seemed more about her shyness and social awkwardness than anything.

I‘m a sucker for memoirs where the author does something new for a year and writes about it. This one wasn‘t bad and the author‘s voice was appropriately chatty. However, I ended up feeling like the author wasn‘t addressing problems of introversion as much as her shyness. Doing an improv class, stand-up comedy, speaking in public, talking to strangers - all of these fears faced her embarrassment and shyness, not necessarily introversion.

ALA book haul no. 2. I couldn‘t believe Joe Hill‘s new book was in my tote bag at the Random House Book Buzz. I love that panel and it‘s alway my first one fo the conference; it gets me started on the right foot and in a great mood. And they really sold me on The Last Train to London.

Started this one last night. I love these “year of yes” memoirs, but I don‘t think I‘m the type of introvert to follow in their paths!

Vicariously living through others from the comfort of my own home! ✊🏻

PurpleyPumpkin I totally agree with you! I give them props for saying yes more, but I'd have a really hard time following in their footsteps. It's great to read about their experiences though. Stacked!📚 7mo
Bklover Don‘t you wonder if someone who is truly an introvert would even want to have a year of “yes”? I looked at this book in the bookstore and it looks good though! 7mo
rretzler @dariazeoli @PurpleyPumpkin @Bklover I‘m totally an introvert, but there have been times in my life - college and early career - where I functioned more as an extrovert out of necessity. It was hard but doable. Now I‘m old enough to realize that I don‘t have to deal with people if I don‘t want to - I‘m also retired so that helps! 7mo

JanuarieTimewalker13 I‘ve found in my older years, the power of “no”. I wish I had found that power 15 years ago, I would have saved myself a lot of stress. Make that 25 years. I should‘ve started saying no at around 30. I was already tired. (edited) 7mo
Bklover I‘m basically an introvert, but I could be an extrovert at work and did well. Now that I‘m retired I find myself becoming even more introverted! 7mo
JacqMac As an introvert, just thinking about a year of yes gives me anxiety. Lol 7mo

As an introvert masquerading as an extrovert I seek these types of books out...but this one is a Nope, the author is annoying and takes herself way too seriously to be a real introvert. Honestly I don‘t believe her

Notafraidofwords That last line 😂 7mo
britt_brooke 😆 I love honest reviews! Definitely skipping this. 7mo
CallMeIshmael @britt_brooke I really believe she crafted this to write a book and there is little truth to it. Very superficial, as a proud introvert it frustrates me when this is styled as “who we are” 7mo
britt_brooke @CallMeIshmael A true introvert would‘ve never written such a gimmicky-sounding book. 7mo

I‘ve never written a book but this felt like I have. I too am a 30 something introverted small town Texas girl w no idea how to make friends. I'm not Chinese or named Jessica but I would‘ve been if my cousin hadn't been born first forcing Mom to name me Jennifer instead. The title caught my eye, b/c SAME. Many times I caught myself nodding enthusiastically & just laughing out loud. I‘m inspired to go on an extrovert journey of my own.

That‘s it folks! The final numbers for my #KindleReads ♥️ I ended up added my BlurFire downloads as well, but I only have a handful on there, as they expire. This is one long list. 18 pages long, to be exact😅 Anyways, I‘m looking forward to tackling this list by using a random number generator. #KindleReads
