A Borrowing of Bones | Paula Munier
10 posts | 10 read | 7 to read
The first in a gripping new mystery series by literary agent Paula Munier, about a retired MP and bomb-sniffing dog who become embroiled in an investigation in the beautiful Vermont wilderness It may be the Fourth of July weekend, but for retired soldier Mercy Carr and Belgian Malinois Elvis, its just another walk in the remote Lye Brook Wildernessuntil the former bomb-sniffing dog alerts to explosives and they find a squalling baby abandoned near a shallow grave filled with what appear to be human bones. U.S. Game Warden Troy Warner and his search-and rescue Newfoundland Susie Bear respond to Mercys 911 call, and the four must work together to track down a missing mother, solve a cold-case murder, and keep the citizens of Vermont safe onpotentially the most incendiary Independence Day since the American Revolution. Paula Munier is a crime and mystery literary agent with extensive connections in the mystery community. She regularly sells out virtual writing workshops for hundreds of students and is prominent member of Mystery Writers of America and has served as president of the New England chapter of MWA for four terms and is currently a board member. Paula has served on the New England Crime Bake committee for ten years and counting, is a leader for the Algonkian New York Pitch conference and a Writers Digest workshop leader and writer. She's an active member of Sisters in Crime, ITW, AWP, and SCBWI. Paula is in contact with the crime writers who run the Jungle Red Writers website. As an agent, she attends SF Writers, Thrillerfest, Writers Digest, Bouchercon, Book Expo, AWP, and more conferences every year. A Borrowing of Bones is full of complex twists and real details about search-and-rescue dog training that Paula has learned through the training of her own dog. With its canine sidekicks and procedural plot, this series is well-positioned to become "Julia Spencer-Fleming with dogs" and will be a must-have for mystery fans.

I wanted to enjoy this book more than I did. I enjoyed the canine characters but the main character was not my favorite.

I would recommend this book for any animal lover looking for a mild mystery.

📖📚Happy Reading!📚📖

A good mystery. A little more depth in the characters would have been nice.

First book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I picked it up because of the fact that there was a dog in it. 😂 I'm sure I'm not the only one who does that. 🙈

Librarygal08 I just grabbed this at the library! 5y

Did I need a new bookmark? No. Was this too gorgeous to pass up? Yes. 🙈

My bookmark addiction is as bad as my book addiction.

Score! Got these 3 signed at the New England Crime Bake this weekend! Munier is an animal loving sweetheart, Mosley is hilarious, but also an excellent, eloquent speaker, and Ryan is lightning in a bottle! All write a great mystery, too!

I really enjoyed this book! Two awesome dogs (the human characters are as well developed and interesting as the pups), a good mystery, plenty of action, emotional angst, New England woods and a pinch of romance = a great read! Thrilled to learn that it's going to be a series! Two paws up! 🐾🐕🐕

RadicalReader @BookDragonNotWorm you honestly have undoubtedly the best and most unique username I have ever seen for book fanatics or otherwise 6y

Meh. This had a lot of promise but there was waaaaaay to much unnecessary description. I don't need to know the color of every plate you eat off, which particular farm in Vermont your cheese came from or what year the local hot dog stand opened. I would however have enjoyed some more information on some of the magical leaps of logic Mercy had to jump to in order to solve this one. The dogs were great though.

One of the coolest things about working in publishing is the ARCs. Diving into the upcoming mystery from Paula Munier! It‘s got dogs and an awesome female lead. What more do you need?

Out in September, so be sure to pick it up!
